Alumnus finds pride in building campus, community
Dean Basten is the first non-family member in the 90-year history of the family-owned Miron Construction Company to be named a company officer. The secretary/treasurer oversees accounting and finance for the Neenah-based firm that does the largest volume of any general contractor in Wisconsin. The firm put $420 million in construction in place last year.
Miron built the Kress Events Center, the University Union and remodeled both the Laboratory Sciences building and the Weidner Center. Miron also constructed the Resch Center — home court to Phoenix men’s basketball. “Certainly there is a great deal of pride being involved in campus projects,” Basten said.
Campus memories: “I remember the talented group of professors in accounting, especially Dr. Zehms, Marilyn Sagrillo and Ann Selk… They were great at the basics of debits and credits, but they also did a great job of teaching us ‘the real world.’”
