Arboretum Mammals

racoonThe Cofrin Arboretum, apart of the University of Wisconsin Green Bay campus found in northeastern Wisconsin on the shores of Green Bay, encompasses 290 acres of natural communities. These natural areas include prairies, meadows, woodlands, wetlands, and other various habitats. Preservation of these natural resources has allowed many different species of mammals to live in close proximity to urban settings. Trail systems running through the arboretum allows visitors to view these mammals in their natural habitat. A list of 45 species was obtained through research by natural and applied science personnel, faculty, and students.  Their status on campus and the habitat in which they occupy follows the species.

Mammal common names and order of appearance is derived from Kurta (1995).

Status: Habitat:
C = common f = forest
U = uncommon g = grassland
R = rare s = shrub/woodland
E = extirpated w = water
? = hypothetical
