Award Instructions

I. VIEW AND ACCEPT YOUR AWARD

  • Once you receive notification from us that you have been awarded financial aid (via email and/or postcard), you’ll want to navigate to the Student Information System at UW-Green Bay. Log in using your network username and password (New Students- this is found in your Admissions packet). Go to the Finances area, Click Accept/Decline Awards, and select the correct Aid Year.

If you are having difficulty accessing the Student Information System, call the UWGB CIT Help Desk (920) 465-2309.

  • The awards you see are for the entire year and will generally be split equally between semester 1 and semester 2. If you want to reduce a loan or work study award, click ‘Accept’ and enter the amount needed in the box (whole numbers only-no cents). After accepting and/or declining the various aid options offered, click SUBMIT and then YES and OK in order to submit your request and return to the Award Screen. If you want to accept an award for one semester only, you’ll need to contact the Financial Aid Office.

  • At the bottom of the Accept/Decline page, you will see some links.

Loan Completion Requirements If you accept all or a portion of the student loans offered to you, this link will take you to the Loan Information area of our website to explain the steps you will need to take in order to secure them. THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT STEP.

Contact Us You will use this link annually to notify the Financial Aid Office of any outside scholarships or other educational assistance you are expecting to receive in the upcoming aid year. Sources of outside aid include vocational rehabilitation support, scholarships from all sources (including athletic), assistantships, and veterans’ benefits. In your message, please indicate the source of funding, the amount you are to receive for each semester, and the total amount.

    Please note the following:

You are required to accept or decline your student loans and/or work study within three (3) weeks of the award date or the aid may be cancelled.

We award assuming full time enrollment (at least 12 credits per semester as an undergraduate or 9 credits as a graduate). Enrolling less than full time may result in a changed award.

Failure to notify the Financial Aid Office about any outside scholarships or other educational assistance you will be receiving may result in total loss of aid from the University.
II. A NOTE ABOUT LOANS

Student loans have become an essential component students use to finance their educational expenses. Loans, by definition and regulation, must be repaid and therefore should be used sparingly and wisely. If you accept a loan you are responsible for repaying the loan plus interest. Remember that the more you borrow the higher the monthly repayment will be, so only take as much loan money as you will need. Navigate to the Loan Information area of our website for more detailed loan information and to find out what steps you will need to take in order to secure the loans that have been awarded to you.

III. A NOTE ABOUT WORK STUDY

If you have been awarded Work Study, and you are interested in working while attending school, accept this award. You will need to secure a job on or off campus by early fall semester. For more information on securing a work study position, please contact the Financial Aid Office at studentemployment@uwgb.edu. If you are not familiar with the Work Study Program, see the Federal Work Study section under Financial Aid Descriptions.

IV. SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES

If you are denied certain types of aid and feel that your application should be reconsidered because of special circumstances or events since you filed for aid, it is possible to appeal in writing. A Financial Aid Committee will review your appeal and you will be notified of the result. The types of requests and links are listed below.

Additional Expense Request Form - If you or your family (if you are a dependent student) has expenses that are above and beyond what you feel are typical (medical, child care, etc).

Reduced Income Request Form - If one or several of your family members has experienced a reduction of income in the current tax year due to extenuating circumstances (lay-off, change of jobs, reduced hours, loss of child support, etc.).
