HOW TO GET HELP!

Connect to our Research Assistance Page to get individual help with your project.

And this, related, discussion of search strategies, though originally developed for a different course, is also very useful

Recommended journals

Connect HERE to view over two dozen core economics journals in JSTOR, including The Journal of Economic Literature, The Journal of Economic History and The American Economic Review. The current 1-2 years may not be available, however, for the purpose of this course the archival material will prove invaluable. Aside from browsing the tables of contents you can go to JSTOR (see link below) to search across journals for a specific topic.

Recommended Databases For Journal Articles

  • JSTOR
Description: JSTOR database is unique because the complete backfiles of core scholarly journals have been digitized, starting with the very first issues, many of which reach back to the 1800s. The database now contains over 2 million pages and new titles and fields are being added constantly (approximately 100,000 pages are added to the database each month).
Coverage: varies from title to title, but approximately from the 1800s to 1994.

  • Science Citation Index -- Description: Search for references and cited references in Science Citation Index, Social Science Citation Index, and Arts & Humanities Citations Index. Coverage: 1987 - present
Connect to http://www.uwgb.edu/Library/services/EndNoteWeb.pdf for a guide on how to use End Note to manage your bibliography.

  • Academic Search Premier from EbscoHost
Premier contains indexing and abstracts for more than 8,200 journals, with full text for more than 4,500 of those titles. PDF backfiles to 1975 or further are available for well over one hundred journals, and searchable cited references are provided for nearly 1,000 titles. Academic Search Premier from EbscoHostcontains unmatched full text coverage in biology, chemistry, engineering, physics, psychology, religion & theology, etc.
