Stand alone or networked?
If you plan on having more than one computer utilize a printer, then you will need a printer with network capabilities. Network printers are also called "Ethernet ready." To identify HP LaserJet printers that are network ready, look for the "N" or an "X" after the model number (such as HP2015n LaserJet).

Cost of owning a printer
If you need to buy a personal printer, you might want to compare the overall cost of printing with a black-and-white LaserJet vs. a color inkjet printer over a 3-year period. Although inkjet printers are initially less expensive, laser printers offer a much better value over time because their toner cartridges last much longer. Inkjet printers are generally not designed to be serviced; replacement is generally a less expensive option. If you plan to print over 300 sheets per month of primarily black & white, a LaserJet would be a more cost effective solution over the long run.
