    College of Menominee Nation News

The College of Menominee Nation competed against Division I universities in Huntsville AL on April 19, 2008.  Unfortunately, the Gray Wolf 8 was destroyed when the drogue parachute failed to deploy at apogee.  Pictured below is the Gray Wolf 8 in flight.

College of Menominee Nation has been selected to participate in the USLI (University Student Launch Initiative) competition at MSFC (Marshall Space Flight Center) in Huntsville, AL.  Launch day is April 19, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Five Clans Rocket Team (Dan Hawk, president; team members: Shane Skenandore, Christine Skenandore, Sheila Solenos-House, Lisa Annamitta, and Lana Otradovec) will be launching the Gray Wolf 8 at USLI. Gray Wolf 8 is a reusable high-power rocket designed to soar to an altitude of one mile. Gray Wolf 8, a 7.67” armor (Dogskin™) coated rocket, carries an infrared/ thermal imaging payload designed to help determine wolf pack populations, their prey, and territorial range.

As an added note, Dan Hawk was recently in Bismark, ND where he was honored as American Indian College Fund Student of the Year.  He was also selected as College of Menominee Nation student of the year.  This recognizes his outstanding leadership and scholarship.
