Student Rocket Design Competition 2008
The Student Rocket Design Competition is an annual competition of college teams from around the state designing, building, and launching high-power rockets to achieve a set goal. In its fourth year, the teams competed to design a one-stage rocket that would, following apogee, land safely under an operating parachute(s) and deploy a Ground Excursion Module (GEM). The winner of the competition flight was the team whose rocket completed a successful flight and whose GEV was the farthest from where it first settled on the ground after 5 minutes following touchdown. Besides launching the rocket, the teams are required to submit a design report on the rocket, do a presentation in front of a panel of judges, and submit a post-launch report analyzing the flight of the rocket. This year’s launch was quite interesting, with seven teams flying their rockets with many different and creative designs.
