Mark Your Music

ACDA will provide you with a pencil. USE IT! Now that you have a pencil, there is no excuse to not mark your music.

This instrument is required at all rehearsals - including dress rehearsals. Get used to the feeling of having a pencil in your hand at all times.

What you write with your pencil is an individual matter, but never promise yourself that "you'll remember" -  write it down the first time. Whatever "choral shorthand" method you are familiar with or have used in the past is fine as long as it is meaningful to you. There are more suggestions for this further in the handbook.

You are responsible for all property that is loaned to you by the University. If this property is lost or damaged, you will be charged for replacement, and/or a financial hold can be placed on your academic records.

Things To Mark

Circle passages that you usually miss.

Make notes about the music following a page turn - especially if that page turn is fast.

Use an arrow pointing up or down for intonation corrections (sharp or flat).

Place a star or asterisk by your voice part if is difficult to find in elaborate scores.

Write in the beats on difficult rhythmic passages.

Circle tempo, meter and key changes that occur.

Circle musical directions and dynamics you may overlook (ex. repeat signs, coda signs, first and second endings).
