UWGB on the radio

Kari Moody
2000 Grad Communication Major

Director of Convention & Corporate Sales, Hotel Sierra and KI Convention Center

It’s interesting that when I graduated from high school it was my goal to get as far away from my little home town as possible, and I think that’s very common. But once I really started looking at schools and what they had to offer Green Bay was the one I ended up graduating from. You weren’t just a person in a classroom and I noticed that from the get go. I attended one other university for two years and then the following university just for one short semester but at UW-Green Bay I just really felt at home. The professors treated you more like peers they really supported you they knew you by name. I still can run into different professors at the grocery store in town and they’ll know who I am and I won’t forget them that’s for sure. The relationship that you’ll have with the faculty is something that you won’t find anywhere but in this community and if you graduate from UW-Green Bay you know you have a good education. When we left we really felt like we were ready to take on the world. My name is Kari Moody and my UW changed my life.

Naletta Burr
1998 Grad Urban and Regional Studies

Community Economic Development Specialist, Dimension IV

UW-Green Bay is a great school. It provides great opportunity, hands on experiences and within the programs you can kind of develop what works for you. I’m Naletta Burr and I am the Community Economic Development Specialist or architectural planning firm in Green Bay. I have had a great career, it’s been fantastic, and it’s actually been kinda better than I expected. It’s a great job. I would not be in this career without UW-Green Bay. The opportunities it provided from educational, but then also the extra stuff the learning experience and internships and how to translate those internships into curriculum and passion and understanding how that all kind of works together. I wouldn’t have the knowledge base or the skills to be able to do what I’m doing today. The professors were there if you had a question, if you were struggling with an idea, you were struggling with a concept; they were there. They were very passionate. They may make you work for it a little bit, to make sure you are learning it, obviously, but that’s kind of what it’s about. You can’t be the best professionally unless you have those experiences. Hi, I’m Naletta Burr and UW-Green Bay changed my life.

Jen Schanen
2008 Grad Social Work

Program Outreach Specialist, Wise Women Gathering Place Inc.

I would say I was definitely impressed when I arrived at Green Bay. Professors were definitely easy to access at Green Bay. I had really good experiences with professors that were my advisors and I still keep in touch with a lot of them when I have questions out on the field. I’m Jen Schanen; I’m a Program Outreach Specialist with a nonprofit called Wise Women Gathering Place. I teach domestic violence, teen pregnancy, and sexual assault prevention classes at the tribal middle school. I really like it. It’s something different every day. I’m doing things that Green Bay prepared me for. My major was social work. The social work program is a professional program. There is a lot of hands on work experience you’re able to gather while you’re in the program. Not only are you in classes learning new knowledge you’re out in the field working with other professionals and getting to know people in your area and in the community as a student. I really appreciated the experiences of being out and having connections in the community so that when it came time to graduate I knew where I was headed and I knew some names and faces I could connect with. I’m Jen Schanen, my UW changed my life.
