The Adult Degree Program is based upon a broad foundation of liberal studies and the completion of a field of emphasis leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree. It serves primarily adult students whose work, family, and/or community responsibilities preclude regular attendance in on-campus classes, but who wish to be a part of a supportive community of engaged learners.

Desired Program Outcomes

Upon completion of the Interdisciplinary Studies major, a student will demonstrate:

I. Familiarity with the major concepts, theories, and important works of the domain of knowledge represented by:

  1. Natural Sciences and Environmental Issues
  2. Social Sciences
  3. Humanities and Fine Arts
  4. Business and Economics

II. Communication skills as follows:

  1. Ability to give effective oral presentations
  2. Analysis, comprehension, and appreciation of written materials
  3. Writing skills
  4. Technological skills
  5. Numerical skills
  6. Interpersonal skills
  7. Ability to work cooperatively with others and demonstrate skill in intra-group relations

III. Ability to engage in various phases of problem-solving:

  1. Problem identification
  2. Problem diagnosis
  3. Solution development
  4. Decision making
  5. Implementation of the chosen solution and evaluation of results

IV. Skills in information retrieval and management as demonstrated by:

  1. Ability to retrieve and evaluate information from a variety of sources
  2. Demonstration of computer skills
  3. Use of evaluation skills
  4. Presentation of data and information

V. Personal and social development in the following areas:

  1. Awareness of self
  2. Knowledge of own learning style
  3. Knowledge of cultural, racial, gender, and economic diversity
  4. Ability to use persuasion and advocacy skills for social awareness
  5. Demonstration of a world view and an understanding of global interdependence with a willingness to act locally
  6. Development of a life-long learning plan
