UW-Green Bay Office ofAdvancement

Although it requires extra planning, requesting a response from your invited guests can give you valuable information as you plan your event. Responses are helpful to estimate sufficient seating accommodations and refreshments for your event. A guest list also allows event planners to prepare name badges and other event materials for attendees. A guest list can help inform which key attendees you would like your event photographer to photograph.

Event responses and registration may be handled via

  • phone - designate an individual for guests to call who will keep a tally
  • e-mail - e-mail a designated address
  • reply card - mail printed cards
  • online registration - using the UWGB Qualtrics Survey Service or sites like eventbrite

R.S.V.P. Deadline

If you are requesting a response, be sure to include an R.S.V.P. deadline in your invitation. Turn-around times on food and refreshment and printing orders may dictate your RSVP date. It is recommended to give your guests a couple of weeks after receiving the invitation to respond.

Did you know?

R.S.V.P. is derived from the French phrase Répondez s'il vous plaît, literally "Reply if you please" or "Please reply." Therefore, asking people to "please r.s.v.p." carries a redundant "please."
