INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES
OVERVIEW OF THE PROGRAM:
The major in Interdisciplinary Studies is designed to help a student gain broad intellectual understandings of the interrelationships of learning among several areas of study. These areas of study include the social sciences, natural sciences, humanities and fine arts, and business and economics. The Interdisciplinary Studies major prepares the student to apply this learning in his or her professional, community, and personal activities and is suitable preparation for graduate work in a number of programs. This degree program is designed to meet the needs of working adults.
The Interdisciplinary Studies major is offered through the University’s Adult Degrees Program ( http://www.uwgb.edu/adultdegrees). Courses in this program are delivered in alternative formats appropriate for adult learners who are unable to attend traditional, on-campus courses due to employment and/or family responsibilities. Course formats include on-campus, Saturday courses (which typically meet on 3 or 4 Saturdays over the course of a semester with intensive learning taking place throughout the semester), internet courses (which are administered completely online), and web-enhanced courses (which represent a mixture of Saturday sessions and online course activities).
For the Interdisciplinary Studies major, a student is required to identify an area of emphasis. The student's area of emphasis consists of upper-level coursework that is individualized to his or her needs. It may be career-related or focused on an area of special interest. It may be an interdisciplinary specialization, or study in a single discipline.
