MARKETING
(BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION)
Business Administration Emphasis
OVERVIEW OF THE PROGRAM:
The Marketing emphasis at UW-Green Bay focuses on the process of planning and executing the conception, pricing, promotion and distribution of ideas, goods and services to create exchanges that satisfy individual and organizational objectives. The study of Marketing includes the study of sales and advertising principles, brand and product management, planning, and research. This emphasis also has an option of studying Marketing from a global perspective.
Remember that Marketing is not a major entirely by itself. It is an area of emphasis within the Business Administration major. Make sure you read what’s on this page, as well as the information on Business Administration to learn more about the program!
TIPS FROM THE PROF:
(from Dr. Peter W. Smith, Associate Professor of Marketing )
-
BE MOBILE. Many of the better employment opportunities in marketing are in large cities. Be willing to move to enhance your career goals.
-
THINK INTERNSHIP. Employers prefer graduates who already have relevant experience.
-
THINK SECOND LANGUAGE. Consider the benefits of learning a second language. In the field of business, knowing a second language will make you extremely valuable (and attractive!) to employers whether you work in the U.S. or abroad!
WHO SHOULD HAVE THIS EMPHASIS :
-
BEYOND THE WALLS. Students who enjoy being creative and are looking to use that creativity within a challenging career should consider the field of Marketing. This is a great place for those people who "think outside of the box."
-
TEAMWORK. Students who enjoy working with others in a team environment and working toward a common goal.
-
EXCITEMENT. Also, students who are looking for variety and diversity in your daily tasks, seek constant new challenges, and a dynamic and energized work atmosphere.
-
MINOR DECISIONS. Some minors that work well with the Marketing emphasis are Communication and the Arts, Communication Processes, Music, Economics, Psychology, English, Human Development, the Foreign Languages, and Computer Science. Ultimately, any area of study that a student would enjoy is an appropriate minor.
WHAT’S UNIQUE ABOUT THIS EMPHASIS AT UW-GREEN BAY:
-
DEDICATION. Faculty are committed to serving the needs of business and society and to providing an outstanding learning environment. Excellent teaching and high levels of student participation are valued. Upper-level classes frequently number fewer than 35 students, facilitating discussion and allowing close work with faculty.
-
PREPARATION. Because Marketing is an emphasis within the Business Administration degree, students graduate as powerful and well-rounded candidates for some great jobs!
-
INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE. Opportunities are available to meet business professionals and gain practical experience. An active Marketing student organization supports these efforts and helps students to meet others with like interests. Faculty members encourage participation in the internship program, through which students learn while working in real business settings.
-
APPLICATION. A distinctive feature of the program is that many upper-level courses include a practical project component, offering the opportunity to apply the problem-solving theories and concepts learned in the classroom to real situations. Alumni say these experiences increase their value to employers and set them apart from traditional business program graduates.
-
HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE. Work on course projects with local organizations such as: Green Bay Packers, City of Green Bay, Schreiber Foods and more!
