WHEN SHOULD I DECLARE MY MAJOR?
By the end of your freshman year or beginning of your sophomore year.
HOW LONG CAN I REMAIN UNDECIDED?
All students are required to declare a major by the time they
are in progress of earning 62 credits. The Official
Declaration of Degree Plan must also include the interdisciplinary
major or minor.
HOW DO I DECLARE MY MAJOR?
You must complete an Official
Declaration of Degree Plan and have it signed by either
the chair of the department or faculty advisor. Return
the completed form to the Registrar’s Office, Student
Services 1000.
CAN I CHANGE MY MIND AFTER I HAVE DECLARED A MAJOR?
Yes, of course, but realize that depending upon the programs, it may require additional coursework and may delay your
graduation. Do your research and consult with an advisor before making changes.
WILL I BE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE A MINOR?
That depends upon your major. All disciplinary majors require an interdisciplinary minor.
WHAT IS THE INTERDISCIPLINARY MAJOR/MINOR REQUIREMENT?
All students must complete an interdisciplinary major or minor. Interdisciplinary programs help you develop an
understanding of our complex world and allow you to examine issues and problems from different perspectives.
WHAT IS A DISCIPLINARY MAJOR/MINOR?
Disciplinary programs require in-depth study of one specific subject, i.e. history, psychology, biology.

CAN I DECLARE MORE THAN ONE MAJOR?
Yes, you can declare multiple majors and minors, but you should discuss this with your advisor and consider the
feasibility of pursuing multiple programs of study. You must also be sure that your plan includes an interdisciplinary
major or minor.
HOW MANY CREDITS ARE REQUIRED FOR A MAJOR?
Requirements vary from one major to the next. However, all majors require a minimum of 30 credits. Consult the UW
Green Bay catalog for details.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE ME TO COMPLETE A MAJOR?
That varies depending upon the major. Many majors encourage or require you to complete courses in a specific sequence.
The earlier you declare your major, the more likely you will graduate in a timely fashion. Advanced planning is
critical!
WHO CAN I TALK TO FOR HELP WITH CHOOSING MY MAJOR?
- You can begin by talking with an advisor from Academic Advising or Career Services. If you wish to learn more about
specific majors, consult with a faculty advisor.
- To find your advisor’s name go to the Student
Info System and log in with your user ID and password;
click on Academics and then "View My Advisors".
- If you have questions about a specific program of study, you may consult with the faculty
advisor for that area.
