Alumni News

David Lamers was recipient of the Alumni Association's Outstanding Student Award in May 2001.UW-Green Bay's Largest-ever Class to Graduate in Spring
A lot of people will be hoping for sunshine on May 24 as UW-Green Bay celebrates its largest-ever graduating class, with over 740 students taking part in the Spring Commencement. The class of '03 includes roughly 700 undergraduates and 40 master's degree candidates.

What happens if it rains? Don't ask. Rain information and more details on the ceremony can be found on the Chancellor's Web site at http://www.uwgb.edu/chancellor/

Professors Dell, Matter and Rodesch to Retire
Spring Commencement will also recognize esteemed faculty members who will be retiring this semester. Jerry Dell (Communications and the Arts), Chuck Matter (Information and Computing Sciences) and Jerry Rodesch (Humanistic Studies) will all be recognized with emeriti status at graduation. Together, they have provided over 93 years of service to UW-Green Bay.

UW-Green Bay Affected By State Budget Concerns
As the State of Wisconsin battles a $3.2 billion dollar budget shortfall for the next biennium, the effects are starting to be felt at UW-Green Bay. UWGB will need to deal with staffing cuts, class reductions, and more over the next two years. To learn more about the budget effects, click on Chancellor Shepard's overview at http://www.uwgb.edu/chancellor/budget/index.htm.

Please contact your legislators and let them know that further cuts to the UW System, beyond the $250 million in the state budget, will be disastrous for the System and UW-Green Bay. It is also imperative to stress that the $150 million in proposed tuition increases are critically needed to maintain the quality of public higher education in Wisconsin. If you have questions, please contact Dan Spielmann, Director of Government and Community Relations at (920) 465-5025 or via e-mail at spielmad@uwgb.edu.
