Distinguished Alumni Award Recipients Announced
The UW-Green Bay Alumni Association has announced that Diane Ford '75 and Steve Taylor '79 have been selected as Distinguished Alumni Award winners for 2002. Diane is a vice-president with Wisconsin Public Service and is a member of the Chancellor's Council of Trustees. Steve is a financial representative for Northwestern Mutual Financial Network and is a member of the Phoenix Fund Board of Directors.
Past Board Members, Voice of the Phoenix To Be Honored
Alumni Awards Night will also honor several individuals who recently completed terms on the Alumni Association's Board of Directors. They include: Pam Stoll '74, Lisa Cribben '92, John Schuster '95, Philip May '99 and Mischelle Wright '96. In addition, John Maino, voice of UW-Green Bay men's basketball and long time supporter of the Alumni Association, will be presented with the Honorary Alumnus Award.
UW-Green Bay Honors 20,000th Graduate
The recent December Commencement was extra-special for one graduate. The
December 21 ceremony featured the recognition of UW-Green Bay's 20,000th
graduate. Leanne Shaha, a business and Spanish major from Luxemburg, Wis.,
was acknowledged as the lucky recipient and was joined on stage by the
University's first graduate, Nancy Deprey '70 (regional analysis).

Don't Hang-Up...It's the Alumni Phone-A-Thon
Beginning February 3, students will be on the phone, calling alums for their support. The annual event allows graduates to update their personal and business information while offering the opportunity to make a contribution in support of the University. Basketball Team Ranked #21 in the Nation
The UW-Green Bay women's basketball team, with an overall record of 16-3
and a 7-0 mark in Horizon League play (as of 1/27/03) is currently ranked
21st in the nation.

UWGB Alum to Appear on "The West Wing"
Theatre program friends of Mary Gallagher, class of '90, are setting their VCRs for the Wednesday, Feb. 5, edition of the popular TV series "The West Wing." Gallagher sends word she'll be playing the character Maddy Tatum in a scene opposite presidential adviser Josh Lyman (actor Bradley Whitford). Gallagher has several prime-time appearances (a "Friends" episode, some Game Show Network exposure) since moving to Los Angeles.
UW-Green Bay is Coming to Madison
UW-Green Bay and the UW-Green Bay Alumni Association are joining forces to host a reception for alums and friends of the University living in the Madison-area. The cocktail and hors d'oeuvres reception will be held April 24th, 2003 at the Monona Terrace in Madison. More information on the event will be coming soon.
UW-Green Bay visits Alumni at Schenck Business Solutions
UW-Green Bay staff and faculty recently headed to the Green Bay offices of Schenck Business Solutions for an Alumni Business Reception. Chancellor Shepard, faculty from the accounting department, and other University representatives had a chance to meet with a number of alums at Schenck to provide an update on campus happenings as well as take questions. Ed Bauknecht '71, serves as the director of management information systems at Holy Family Memorial Hospital of Manitowoc. Two of Ed's sons, Christopher '93 (biology) and Adam '95 (human biology) are also UW-Green Bay graduates. Ed received his degree in communication and the arts.
Barbara Homel '85, joined Fox Valley Technical College in the fall of 2002 as Community Relations Manager. She leads the college-wide marketing efforts and oversees special events. Her degree is in communication and the arts.
Michele Tjader '93, was elected president of the Dane County Criminal Defense Lawyer's Association for 2003. Tjader is an attorney with Tjader & Chirafisi, LLC of Madison. Her degree is in humanistic studies.
Dawn Maertz '01, is in her second year of Dental School at the University of Minnesota, with plans to graduate in May of 2005. At Minnesota, she co-founded an e-mentoring program with area high school students who are interested in careers in the health field. She received her degree in chemistry.
