a Record Breaker
The weather
With a high temperature in the 60s and a slight
breeze, the weather was picture perfect for an outdoor ceremony. An estimated
crowd of more than 3,000 joined the 700 graduates in the University Amphitheatre.
The featured
speaker
Lt. Governor Barbara Lawton, serving as the Commencement
Speaker, urged graduates to open the doors of democracy for themselves
and future generations. Lawton is the first woman elected lieutenant governor
in the State of Wisconsin.
Chancellor's Awards
Chancellor Bruce Shepard presented Chancellor's
Awards to Thomas L. Olson (shown at left) and Gary R. Weidner. Olson is
a charter member of the Chancellor's Council of Trustees. Weidner, who passed
away in January, was a long-time supporter of UW-Green Bay, and the son
of founding chancellor, Edward Weidner.
Student Speaker and Outstanding Student Award
Additional
commencement speakers included student speaker Christopher Barlow of Green
Bay and Outstanding Student Award recipient Chad Griepentrog of Spencer.
