$5.5 million Cofrin gift means business

UW-Green Bay announced that a $5.5 million gift received earlier this year from Dr. David A. Cofrin, coupled with previous gifts from the Cofrin Family, will result in creation of the University’s second fully endowed chair, a permanent endowment to fund academic enhancements, and a new name for the school’s business program. Also… work on your Master’s in France?

That’s correct. UW-Green Bay is in partnership with BEM Management School, Bordeaux, France. Participating students from either school will enroll in a minimum of 15 credits at UW-Green Bay. During the following semester, students will complete the equivalent of 15 credits in either Bordeaux or at UW-Green Bay. The program (read news release) can be completed in 17 months. Commencement Reception

Alumni, friends and recent graduates are invited to the annual commencement reception for new graduates from 8 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19 at Titletown Brewing. Enjoy complimentary beverages, soda and hors d’oeuvres, and enter the drawing to win a door prize.

Chance to meet Chancellor Harden

Come meet Chancellor Harden and get an ‘Update on Your U.’ A reception begins at 5 p.m., followed by the program at about 5:45 p.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at the Hotel Sierra, downtown Green Bay. Alumni needed for bell-ringing

The Alumni Association is teaming up with the Salvation Army for the bell-ringing campaign in Northeast Wisconsin. All of the shifts are at the Big Red Kettle at Bay Park Square.

This is an easy way to give back and get involved. Bring a friend.

Here is a list of the shifts:

• Friday, Dec. 4: 5-6 p.m. and 7-8 p.m.
• Tuesday, Dec. 8: 7-8 p.m.
• Wednesday, Dec. 16: 6-8 p.m.
• Thursday, Dec. 17: 6-8 p.m.

Women’s Basketball Already Making a Name This Season

The Phoenix women’s basketball team topped the Horizon League’s preseason poll. The team was predicted to win its 12th straight league  title this year. The regular season begins Nov. 13 at North Dakota with exhibition games already in full swing.

Rally time: Phoenix vs. Badgers

Join fellow alumni for the Phoenix vs. the Badgers men’s basketball game, Wednesday, Dec. 9. A pre-game reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. in the upper-level of The Bar on Holmgren Way, Green Bay, with the game to follow at 7 p.m. at the Resch Center. Complimentary light hors d’oeuvres will be provided at The Bar.

Alumni, faculty and friends of UW-Green Bay’s Social Work program gathered Friday, Oct. 23, at the Weidner Center on campus, to celebrate their program and raise funds to support student scholarships. Current and retired faculty greeted nearly 60 alumni and guests. Joseph Becwar, ‘90, traveled from New York City for this first-ever event. The evening included comments from Loretta Larkey, an ‘88 graduate and recently retired University faculty member. The social work program became accredited in 1988.

Nicole Michlig (far right in photo above) is a senior communications major and a third year phone-a-thon caller. Yes, she’s heard her share of hang-ups and no answers, but she keeps coming back.
