About Me - Professionally
-
Please call me Lucy.
Unless that makes you uncomfortable. Then, call me Dr. Arendt. Or
Professor Arendt. Just don't call me Mrs. Arendt. Why? Because
that's not me; that's my beloved mother-in-law. (It's true. My
in-laws rock. Thank God.)
-
I earned my Ph.D. in
Management Science from UW-Milwaukee in August, 2006. My major areas
were Organizational Behavior and Strategic Management. My minor area
was Communication. My dissertation committee was composed of Mark
Mone (advisor), Paul Nystrom (ret.), Janet Miller, Renee Meyers, and
Phil Smith (ret.). Excellent scholars and teachers, all.
-
I teach Bus Adm 389,
Organizational Behavior; Bus Adm 472, Seminar in Leadership; Bus Adm
489, Organizational Theory; and Mgmt 753, Organizational Behavior
and Theory. All of my course materials are available through
D2L to enrolled students only.
-
My research interests
include strategic decision making, sense making, and judgment;
the antecedents, correlates, functions, and effects of humor
in small groups and organizations; the impact of educational
pedagogy (e.g., films, group exercises) on students’ engagement,
learning, beliefs, and satisfaction; and the antecedents and
consequences of psychological stress for organizations and
their members.
-
I am engaged in
service activities on the UW-Green Bay
campus, in the greater Green Bay community, and in professional
associations.

About Me
- Personally
-
I'm a
first-generation college graduate who believes in the power of
education to uplift and permanently alter people's life
trajectories. I fully respect my students and their desire to change
their lives.
-
I'm a social
scientist with myriad interests, all of which are founded in the
interdisciplinary, problem-focused undergraduate education that I
received from UWGB a long, long time ago. My research and teaching
interests are rooted in how real people deal with so-called
organizational reality. I have little tolerance for the cult of
personality. I strongly believe that organizational structure
constrains and directs individual and group behavior far more than
many people are willing to concede.
-
I am a person of
integrity, who works hard to convey to students the need to think
critically and behave ethically. I am passionate about what I do -
24/7/365.
-
I believe in the
individual imperative - organizations exist to serve individuals,
not the other way around.
-
I believe that
citizens of any community are obligated to serve as both effective
leaders and followers. We must be independent, critical thinkers
ready and willing to actively tackle the complex problems of our
day.
-
I do not suffer fools
gladly. Snobbery bores me. I have more questions than
answers. I loathe 24-hour news. I like chocolate. I love saying,
"Austin Straubel International Airport."
