The jewelry/metals curriculum focuses on technical development in order to facilitate clear communication of concepts and forms. The coursework is supported through exposure to historical and contemporary metalwork, as well as workshops and visiting lectures by metalsmithing professionals. The projects are problem-solving based and require students to build a finished piece while making decisions about the fabrication process and anticipating possible problems before they arise. The studio is equipped for various techniques, which include basic fabrication techniques, casting, raising, die-forming, electroforming, aluminum anodizing and enameling. Students explore wearable, functional and small scale sculptural objects through an interdisciplinary approach to art making.
