The printmaking area is comprised of intaglio, relief, lithography, monotype, screen printing, and other associated processes. The printmaking studios are equipped with an etching room, ventilated spray booths, screen printing stations, an exposure unit for photo based screens and litho plates, flat storage drawers and numerous work-tables. Presses include one Brand etching press, one Takach etching press, and one Brand lithography press. Strong emphasis is placed on safe studio practices; non-toxic processes and materials such as photo-based polymer plates and water-based screen printing inks are used as well as oil-based inks, grounds, and solvents.
Introduction to Printmaking, a 200-level studio course, acquaints students with various printmaking techniques, focusing on intaglio processes (collagraph, monotype, dry-point, hard ground, soft ground and aquatint) and relief printing. The 300-level courses include Lithography, Intaglio, Relief, and Screen Printing. These courses expand technical and conceptual processes. In Advanced Printmaking, students work to produce a print series using individually selected print process(es).
