Beginning of
the Year Social - Machinaw's










The ASA had their Beginning of the Year Social at Mackinaw's. Food and soda was provided. On the menu was BBQ meatballs, fruit, and cheese, crackers and sausage. Accounting students from different classes mingled with professors and fellow accounting students and learned more about what ASA has to offer.
Schenck Open House





The ASA was invited to Schenk Business Solutions open house. Dennis Langenberg, the executive officer in Green Bay, talked to us first about his career at Schenck and what career opportunities were available at Schenck for UWGB students. William Goodman, the president of Schenck, then discussed with us his past experiences and career path along with what lead him to Schenck. After the presentations, dinner and tours of the office were provided
H&R Block


The ASA welcomed H&R Block to campus to discuss career opportunities and the organizational structure of the organization. Two gentleman came to speak on Block's behalf and opened eyes and minds about the possibilities of a career with Block. After the discussion, Block had mentioned the availability of internships within the organization.
Kaplan CPA Review


The ASA welcomed Adam Peterman of LaCrosse based Kaplan CPA Review. Adam discussed various topics regarding the CPA exam and the new computerized format of the exam. For more information about Kaplan CPA Review products and information refer to the link from our links page. Adam had mentioned how you can receive free weekly emails tips for the exam.

Badger Blast
Wisconsin Badgers vs. UNLV
Camp Randall Stadium
UWGB accounting students, along with UW-Oshkosh accounting students and Virchow
Krause staff from Green Bay, Appleton, and Oshkosh, made the trip down to
Madison to see the Badgers take on UNLV. A breakfast buffet was provided
at the UW-Madison Union South. Although the weather did not cooperate and
the Badgers lost, the event was lots of fun.
ASA Social - Gipper's
The ASA had The Phoenix Room reserved at Gipper's for our first social of the fall semester. Food and soda was provided. On the menu was wings, taco dip, and veggies. Accounting students from different classes mingled with professors and fellow accounting students.
ASA Accounting Interviews
The ASA hosted a "how to interview" presentation with the help of Karla Miller from Career Services that was specifically geared towards accounting interviews. Karla gave tips on interview topics that ranged from clothing to personal hygiene to interview questions that might be asked.
Schenck Open House
Schenck Business Solutions invited the ASA to its 3rd annual Open House at its Riverside Drive location in De Pere. Schenck provided accounting students with food, beverages, and information on careers in public accounting and internships. A panel of staff accountants, including two recent UWGB grads, answered questions about their experience in public accounting. Topics of questions ranged from the CPA exam to work/life flexibility.
Virchow Krause on-campus
Kevin Loomans and Jeff French, two partners with Virchow Krause, were on hand to give the ASA some insight into what working in public accounting is like, what public accounting firms are looking for in new hires, and what Virchow Krause is like. There was also time for a question and answer session. The ASA provided chips and soda to all who attended.
Wipfli
A panel of three Wipfli auditors was on hand at Wipfli's Green Bay office to participate in a Q&A session with the ASA. The panel gave us insight into what public accounting is like, and they also offered information on public accounting myths that ASA members asked about. Wipfli provided pizza and soda to all who attended.
ASA Social - Coaches Corner
The ASA hosted a social Coaches Corner in downtown Green Bay. Pizza and soda was provided. The ASA raffled off 5 gift certificates to the Phoenix Bookstore. Accounting students from different classes mingled with professors and fellow accounting students.
ASA Social - Sports Corner
The ASA hosted its first social of the spring semester at Sports Corner. Pizza and soda were provided. Accounting students from different classes mingled with professors and fellow accounting students.
UWGB Business & Finance Event
UWGB's Business & Finance's Kelly Franz and Chuck Wiseman presented. They provided some background into how accounting for a state government is different from private industry accounting. The ASA provided snacks and soda.
Packers Event
The Green Bay Packers financial department presented at Lambeau Field. They gave us insight into financial and accounting functions for the Green Bay Packers and gave us some information on how they became part of the Packers organization. We also were given a tour of Lambeau.
ASA WS Packaging Event
The ASA visited WS Packaging in Algoma for an event that included a tour of their facilities and some insight from their accounting department. Their plant in Algoma makes various labels for companies around the country. We were also provided a sample package of labels.
ASA event with Associated Bank
The ASA visited Associated Bank's auditing department at the Oneida Street Branch in Green Bay. Four Associated Bank employees were on hand to present about the company. Several of the employees were from the auditing department and they discussed their job requirements.
ASA Brewer Game with Virchow Krause in Milwaukee
Virchow Krause was kind enough to take UWGB and UW-Oshkosh accounting students to their Milwaukee office. VK provided bus transportation to Milwaukee along with subs for lunch. We arrived at the Milwaukee office and were given a presentation on VK and their operations in Milwaukee. Dinner was provided at the office and we received a tour of the facilities. Then, VK associates took us to the Milwaukee Brewers game that night.
Schenck Business Solutions
Schenck Business Solutions hosted a grill out for UWGB and St. Norbert's accounting students. Schenck associates gave an overview of the company and then offered tours of their office. The rest of the time was spent networking with the Schenck associates that were present.
Wisconsin Public Service Event
Wisconsin Public Service invited the UWGB ASA to their location downtown. Light snacks and beverages were served while four presenters talked about their experiences at WPS. The presenters traced their career paths for us and talked about why they ended up at WPS. A tour of their accounting areas was provided after the presentation.
Wipfli
Presenters Camilla Nies and Lisa Cribben from Wipfli talked about what Wipfli is all about and their specific areas of the company. They both also touched on their career paths at Wipfli and what they liked about the firm. Subs and refreshments were served, and a tour of their office followed the presentation. The remaining time was spent networking with Wipfli associates.
Krueger International
KI invited the ASA for a plant tour at their location in Bellevue. We observed the process of making chairs and the costs associated with the process. We also were informed of some of the changes that the process has gone through in order to cut costs.
