Internet Data Stores

A great deal of geospatial data is available from on-line "stores" operated by State and Federal agencies. Most use automated FTP to deliver their products, although a few are still standardized on optical disks. Many organizations offer optical disks and/or tape as an option for large requests. Downloaded data is generally free, but there are exceptions and there is almost always a charge for optical media and other non-automated delivery means. A registration and login process is often required, but is not particularly burdensome.
