Results of the Point Au Sable Burn Show Up On LANDSAT Imagery
Posted - May 24, 2012
The results of the controlled burn that took place at the Point Au Sable natural area on May 17, 2012 are easily teased out of imagery from a May 20 LANDSAT flyover. Of the many standard analytical methods available, we chose the simplest and most direct to construct the image sequence below. The first image is a composite of bands 1, 2 and 3 (blue, green and red) from LANDSAT imagery acquired on May 23, 2010. The same process is applied to the May 20, 2012 imagery to make the second image. The third image is a "pan-sharpened" version of the 2012 composite. This example is a very basic application of remote sensing and image analysis tools, but gives an idea of their usefulness for detecting and measuring change.
