We often create spatial databases in support of our research and land management work. Those databases become reference material for subsequent projects.

Wabikon Tree Locations Published May 2013
This shapefile allows tree species and location determined by the initial survey (2008) to be plugged in to an analysis. Metadata furnished by the author states:
"This file was created by Aaron Groves from data provided by Juniper Sundance. It contains the only main stem of all trees survived in 2007 and 2008. The data associated with the main steam of the tree is represented in the attribute table. Secondary stems and their data are NOT represented in this file."

As of today (October 2013) we are not sure if the anomalies known at the time of authorship were all incorporated in this version of the data. More to come on this.

Wabikon 20 Meter Plot Layout Published November 2013
The feature classes in this file geodatabase define the corners, centroids and areal extents of the 20 meter subplots in the Wabikon Forest Dynamics Research Plot.

Wabikon "20 Meter Subplots Table" Published November 2013
A  table with one line for each of the 20 meter subplots is a frequently-used data capture tool for work at Wabikon. The 20 Meter Subplots Table serves two purposes. First, it provides a template so folks don't have to start from scratch every time they want to tabulate data at the 20 meter subplot level. Second, the table contains attribute information that we've acquired along the way. By providing a central place to record subplot events and attributes we hope to limit the number of project-specific tables that get released into the wild. Here's a list of the attributes currently included in the table:

  • Seed trap locations for the 2009 field season (added November 2013)
The table is designed so that it can be joined to the corner, centroid and aereal extent feature classes described in the Wabikon 20 Meter Plot Layout section.

Wabikon Grid Lines Published May 2013
This shapefile allows visual rendering of the various partitioning schemes used for inventory work. Grids down to 5 meters square can be displayed using definition queries. The database also includes features for the diagonals of the 5 meter squares.
