Imagery and Basemaps - ISO Topic Category 10

The Biodiversity Center uses Topic Categories established by the International Standards Organization (Bulletion ISO 19115) to catalog the public domain data that we work with. According to the Standard, Topic Category 10 is used for data that pertains to "Basemaps". The following examples are listed in the standard; land/earth cover, topographic maps, imagery, unclassified images, annotations, digital ortho imagery.

Spatial Data Library - Digital Orthophotos

National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) - This program publishes true-color growing season imagery for most of the US. NAIP imagery is mosaicked by county. Library holdings include volumes for Michigan 2005 and 2010 and Wisconsin 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2010 (volume prefix "10xDOPxNAIP"). With the exception of some items from outside our immediate area of interest, our NAIP imagery is available on the Geodata drive.

Spatial Data Library - Land Use - Land Cover Data

National Land Cover Database (NLCD) - Library holdings include volumes for several upper-midwest states and regions from NLCD 1996, NLCD 2001 (versions 1 and 2) and NLCD 2006 (volume prefix "10xNLCD"). All of our NLCD holdings are available on the Geodata drive.

Spatial Data Library - Satellite Imagery

LANDSAT Imagery - The LANDSAT archive is huge so we've focused on having a representative sample of the archive on hand. Spatial Data Library holdings include volumes for Multispectral Scanner (MSS), Thematic Mapper (TM) and Enhanced Thematic Mapper (ETM) imagery. There is a nice sampling of upper-midwest image extents and flyover years (volume prefixes "10xMSS", "10xTM", "10xETM"). Worldwide Reference System 1 (WRS-1) defines the image extents for imagery acquired by LANDSAT 1, LANDSAT 2 and LANDSAT 3. Worldwide Reference System 2 (WRS-2) defines the image extents for imagery acquired by LANDSAT 4, LANDSAT 5 and LANDSAT 7.
