Bridge to Resch Trail |
||||||||||||||||||||
A bridge at the east end of the park (above) crosses the East River and connects with the Resch Family East River Trail, a 17.8 acre corridor that winds south for approximately 2 miles along the river to Lebrun Road and north beyond Allouez Avenue. The trail includes nearly 500 ft. of boardwalk through riparian wetlands. The invasive plant, Purple Loosestrife, is prominent along the trail, but efforts are underway to control its spread by introduction of leaf-eating and root-eating beetles.
Facilities at Green Isle Park include a pavilion/shelter, playground, picnic areas, athletic fields, several rest room facilities, and hiking trails. Several lookouts with benches have been constructed along the East River.
Green Isle Park is located near the crossing of the East River by Highway 172. Take the Webster Avenue Exit from Highway 172. Go north on Webster Avenue to Greene Avenue. Turn right (east) on Greene Avenue and follow to the park entrance at East River Drive. Access to the East River Trail north of the park can be gained by crossing the bridge near the easternmost parking area in the park. The trail to the south exits the park after passing through the woods adjacent to the tennis courts, near the river. A parking area at the north end of the East River
Trail is located at the end of Westminster Drive. Turn right (west) from
Bellevue Avenue, approximately 1 mile south of the intersection of East
Mason Street and Bellevue. To access the south end of the trail follow
East River Drive south of Green Isle Park to Lebrun Road and follow it
east to its end. Green Isle Park: |
