23. Holland Wildlife Management Area

General Description

woodpecker The Holland Wildlife Area consists of a 1096 acre tract, approximately half of which is public land administered by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The other half is leased by the DNR and is available for public use. Much of the area is lowland forest dominated by Silver Maple. Along the north side there is an extensive area of wet shrubs and even some Cattail in the wettest areas. The southeast corner is mostly old fields and an area of planted prairie grasses and is apparently managed primarily for pheasant hunting.

This is a great place to explore forest wildlife. The plants and animals of the area have not been well documented, although the size of the forest suggests that some interesting discoveries might await an ambitious observer. During fall this is a popular hunting locality; at other times of the year it is seldom visited.
