18. Mountain Bay State Trail

General Description

Mountain Bay TrailNamed for Rib Mountain and Green Bay, this 23 mile hiking and bike trail is a former Chicago and Northwestern Railroad right-of-way. The Brown County Park Department maintains the 13.5 miles of trail between Howard and Pulaski. In Brown County the trail passes through mostly flat farmland and networks with other trails. In other counties the trail runs through forest and farmland, past hiking paths, a swimming beach, and across wetland boardwalk, and 20 bridges.


Facilities

Bicycling and hiking are allowed during snow-free periods in Brown County. A trail fee is required for bicycle use. Daily trail pass: $3 - This pass is valid only for the day of purchase and can be used on all sections of the Mountain-Bay Trail. Daily passes are available at self-registration stations along the trail and from the Brown County Park office.

Trail heads are located at Memorial Park in Howard one-half mile west of the Hwy. 41/Velp Ave. exit on County HS; then two blocks north on County J (Riverview Dr.). On-street parking at Memorial Athletic Park in Shawano at Hwy. 22 (Main St.) and Lieg Ave.
