The Earth Partnership for Schools-Northeastern Wisconsin Partnership is currently seeking K-12 school teams to apply for the 2009 graduate-level habitat restoration institute to take place July 27-- 31, 2009.  Students and teachers learn about the rich and diverse natural history of our region as they plan a native-plant restoration program for their school grounds. Students at Kingfisher Farm.. The Cofrin Student Symposiumwas a great success. If you would like to apply for a Cofrin or Land Trust grant for this year please review the application guidelines. Deadline 31 March 2009.
heirloom tomato The heirloom plant sale will be May 16th at 9 am. This year we have peppers, tomatoes, eggplants, flowers, herbs, and cucumbers. Varieties are now listed and descriptions are coming soon.
pepper plant Research and travel grants are available from the Heirloom Plant Fund to undergraduate and graduate students interested in conducting an independent research projects with NAS faculty. Travel grants are available to students presenting at scientific meetings.More info is available here.

Biodiversity Classroom The Biodiversity Center sponsors a variety of activities including speakers, student field trips, workshops, hikes and special events for students and the general public.

Biological Collections

Richter Museum of Natural History contains one of Wisconsin's most significant collections of animal specimens for scientific research and education.

Ribes odoratum. G. Fewless University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Herbarium houses a collection of approximately 25,000 dried vascular plant vouchers, of which over 90% are from Wisconsin.
Arboretum & Natural Areas
Arboretum fencerow in winter The Cofrin Memorial Arboretum forms a natural 270 acre boundary encircling the campus. Trails provide opportunities for students and the public to enjoy the Arboretum's esthetic and ecological features.

Natural Areas
Five unique properties in NE WI are owned by UWGB. Access by the public is limited in these conservation areas in order to prevent habitat damage. Also, visit the many natural areas and parks in the Green Bay area.

Online Taxonomic Keys, Lists, and Archives
wild rice, Zizania flower. Wild rice was historically widespread throughout much of Wisconsin. UWGB graduate student Juniper Sundance has created a web site about wild rice and has made available GIS layers that show historic and extant distributions of wild rice in Wisconsin.
