Bird Survey Site 5

Site #5Site 5 lies just to the south of the west banding nets.  The low berries and shrubs in the area make it an ideal habitat for birds. In one afternoon in September, over 200 warblers (mostly Blackpoll) were caught in the nets just to the north of this location.  In spring and fall, site 5 attracts warblers, kinglets, vireos and most woodland passerines as they make their way to the point.  Due to its proximity to the lagoon, mixed flocks of rusty blackbirds, red-winged blackbirds and common grackles are also found here.  The large trees that overlook this meadow are good areas to for Merlins and Sharp-Shinned Hawks as they search for potential prey.
