Bird Survey Site 2 Site 7 overlooks the southwest arm of the lagoon. The exposed mud flats this fall attracted a number of bird species. Rusty Blackbirds and sparrows were common visitors, as well as teal, wood ducks, and spotted sandpipers. Yellow-rumped Warblers were also seen gleaning insects off the rushes and exposed mud flats! During the warbler migration, hundreds of warblers, including a few waterthrushes are often seen flitting about in the shrubs. A Cooper's Hawk also could be seen doing some warbler watching of its own. This site is a bottleneck for passerine migrants as the south beach shrubs are joined by the tree line that runs west in the lagoon. It was not unusual to see hundreds of warblers and vireos in a ten minute count.
