Bird Survey Site 8

Site 8 is located on the south beach of Point Sauble and overlooks the bay.  The deeper water here is used by large rafts of ruddy ducks, cormorants and geese.  During a north wind the area is a natural refuge for Bonaparte's Gulls, Common Terns, and other species of water birds.  The rocky shoreline attracts sanderlings, snow buntings and an occasional American Pipit.  The shrub layer behind the beach is also a popular place for warblers and kinglets in the fall because it warms up before other areas of the point.  On one day in November 1999 a male ring-necked pheasant also was seen scratching for food.
