Historic Accounts

by UWGB graduate student Juniper Sundance

Since 2000, the University of Wisconsin Digital Collections Center has been making old and rare books, manuscripts, journals, and images available online. Their State of Wisconsin Collection has over 300 results from a full text search on the phrase “wild rice.”  An annotated bibliography of this collection can be downloaded here.

In the late 1800’s, The Wisconsin State Historical Society published collections of early journals and letters of explorers, missionaries, pioneers, etc. This publication has been digitized and is available online http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/whc/ . An annotated bibliography of this collection can be downloaded here.

The Society also has compiled several sources dealing specifically with wild rice harvesting at http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/turningpoints/tp%2D025/
