Test Formats: Please read this page before taking the tests, even the practice tests! The Test Format page describes the format of the identification tests and gives an idea of what to expect and how to prepare for the identification tests.
- System Checks: Please read this page before taking any tests, even the practice tests! The System Checks page will help determine if your computer and browser are set up properly to run the identification tests.
- Very Important! Close all other programs on your computer to maximize memory available for the tests. The image and audio files on the identification tests are large and can take time to load. Dial-up users: you may not be able to take the identification tests in the alloted test time simply due to the slow download speed of dial-up internet service. Double-check by taking the Practice Tests first.
- PRACTICE TESTS: Please take the practice tests to verify your computer and browser can run the identification tests, and to familiarize yourself with the test format.
The practice tests encompass
species found in all six Bird Conservation Regions. The visual test is created from a random selection of images drawn from a separate database than the actual Visual Identification Test. The audio tests
are not randomized. You may take the practice tests as many times as you like.
- Please refer to Certification Levels for more information about the three levels of certification. Once you have achieved certification, you will receive a Certification Code. Your Certification Code can be provided to agencies, organizations and employers seeking Certified Birders.
- Please check the Client Posts page for current birding projects posted by agencies, organizations and employers. Note: when you move up a level of certification, you will receive a new Certification Code.
