Species Abundance Trends
Charts representing the species below document changes in the average numbers of birds recorded per count during the Nicolet National Forest Bird Survey between 1989 and 1999. The first two years of the survey (1987 and 1988) are not included because not all sites had been added to the survey, and therefore the sample would be biased toward a subset of the sites now included in the project.
Charts include average abundances for the non-road sites only. In 1992 we added 200 randomly selected roadside points, half of which are surveyed each year (100 in the northern half of the forest or 100 in the southern half). Separate charts for these sites will be prepared later.
The species listed below represent all but one (Bald Eagle) of the management indicator species identified by the 1986 Land and Resource Management Plan. A complete list of species will be available here at a later date.
