    EDUCATION IN ACTION
In higher education, Endowed Chair is a time-honored term. Referring not to furniture but to faculty, it describes an endowment that funds an additional faculty position focusing on an area of special importance. Even when filled, a Chair's chair often would be vacant — the UW-Green Bay professor holding such a position would be 'on the run,' in action researching, teaching and serving the community.
Endowed Chairs . . . .
. . . . Make UW-Green Bay a magnet for top students in a strategic and focused area of importance to a donor and the University.
. . . . Permanently add a full faculty position, increasing opportunities for faculty-student interaction.
. . . . Support research and creative work of our most distinguished senior faculty.
. . . . Enable UW-Green Bay to attract and keep outstanding faculty by providing new opportunities for faculty to grow and develop. Ninety-six percent of the University’s tenured or tenure-track faculty already have the highest degree attainable in their academic field.
. . . . Enhance research dimension for students, better preparing them for the workplace or admittance to top graduate programs.
. . . . Develop and strengthen connections between UW-Green Bay and the communities it serves.
. . . . Support and enhance a prominent faculty member’s teaching and research by providing substantial resources for salary support, stipends for graduate or research assistants, supplies, and professional development.
. . . . Build upon basic programs covered through state support.
. . . . Make donors’ names synonymous with academic excellence for $1.5 million per chair.
