EARNINGS AND INVESTMENTS
In casual, everyday conversation, scholarships are typically said to have been 'given' or 'received,' as if they were neatly wrapped presents. Actually, most UW-Green Bay scholarships are earned. Awards are made to high-ability individuals or to those of modest means but prodigious potential. Scholarships go to students who return this investment by making their classmates' experience more competitive and by contributing to our community's economy and quality of life following graduation.
Named Scholarships . . . .
. . . . Make UW-Green Bay more competitive in recruiting top students from Northeastern Wisconsin and beyond.
. . . . Help meritorious students pursue their degrees — and dreams. UW-Green Bay’s current scholarship endowment of $2 million generates approximately $100,000 in annual scholarships, far less than is needed.
. . . . Improve the University’s array of scholarships. UW-Green Bay currently has no four-year scholarships and a limited number of one-year and two-year scholarships.
. . . . Benefit highly qualified students. Twenty of the 82 top applicants for endowed scholarships last year were denied awards. The grade-point averages for these 20 students averaged 3.92 (on a 4.0 scale).
. . . . Provide access to life-changing opportunities. Nearly 60 percent of UW-Green Bay’s freshmen are part of their families’ first generation to pursue a college education.
. . . . Enable students not only to devote more time to studies, but to work with faculty on research projects and other hands-on opportunities.
Endowed Named Scholarships can be created for as little as $10,000.
