Summer Art Studio Camps: Celebrating 55 years!

Celebrating 55 years of commitment to visual arts excellence, the Summer Art Studio offers an in-depth experience for campers interested in pushing the envelope of their creativity. Classes are offered in a variety of media and subject areas and are all held in the well-equipped art studios of UW-Green Bay. Middle school campers will experience two unique mediums. They will have the opportunity to choose a morning and an afternoon class. Although the high school campers focus in only one area, there are many opportunities for interaction with other campers and faculty. Critiques, slide lectures, field trips, and a final exhibition all encourage exchange of ideas and styles.

Faculty and guest instructors are drawn from the ranks of UW-Green Bay and the surrounding region. All are highly-respected, professional artists who are also excellent teachers.

Curriculum

Middle school campers register for both a morning and an afternoon class. High school campers register for one course during the week, allowing the camper to focus on one medium or subject area in depth. Campers will also attend special lectures given by working artists.

 

Materials

Class art supplies are not included in the registration fee. By late spring, campers will receive a list of supplies and materials needed for their specific class. These supply lists are suggestions! Many of the supplies can be found at art supply stores and/or craft shops.

All courses emphasize safety. Any course requiring the use of tools will provide instruction on their use.

 

Special Features

Camper artwork will be displayed in the Lawton Gallery each Friday at 3:00 p.m. A People's Choice Award will be voted on by all exhibition viewers. The People's Choice Award winner will be announced at 4:00 p.m. concluding the exhibition. Scholarship awards to attend the next year are determined by the Summer Art Studio faculty and will be presented at 4:00 p.m. A Thursday evening camp dance is scheduled forresident students attending the high school camp session.

 

Scholarships

More than half of Summer Art Studio campers receive full or partial scholarships from parent groups, school clubs, and civic and service organizations. Be sure to contact your art teacher or local organizations directly to see if there are any scholarships available.

Faculty

The diverse and energetic faculty is made up of talented teachers and artists. All have unique and individualized styles in their art as well as their teaching, but all are committed to providing an intense learning experience emphasizing individual attention, personal growth, and development of conceptual and technical skills.

Schedule

Daily classes are held 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday-Thursday. Classes on Friday run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and the final Art Exhibition show will be from 3:00-4:00pm. Commuter campers should be picked up by 4:00 p.m. Friday.

 

A Note about Supply Lists

The supply list linked to each class are suggestions. You are not required to purchase everything on the list. These supplies can be purchased at an art supply store OR at craft stores, e.g. Michael's, Hobby Lobby, Ben Franklin, Walmart. Minimal supplies are actually needed for most classes and others are suggested to enhance the 'experimental' aspect of the class.

If you choose, Tradewinds, Inc, of Green Bay, will be working with us to pre-package your supply orders and will deliver them the first morning of camp. Eligibility

Middle School Art Camp: Campers entering grades 6-9 in the fall (Day Camp Only)
High School Art Camp: Campers entering grades 8-12+ in the fall (Day Camp and Overnight Options Available)

Cost

Commuter Campers - $269 per week includes instruction, t-shirt and daytime activities. (Commuters must provide their own daily transportation and meals). Offered both weeks.

Resident Campers - $549 per week, including instruction, t-shirt, room and board. The cost of evening activities will vary depending on the camper's choice.  It is recommended that campers bring $20-$30 in cash with them to camp. (Offered for the Week of June 23-28 only).
