Middle School Summer Art Studio: June 18-22, 2012 (Day Camp Only)
For commuter campers entering grades 6-9 in the fall. (If you are entering grades 8 or 9 in the Fall, you may register for the
High School Summer Art Studio Camp if you wish to stay in the campus dorms as a resident camper).
Daily Class Hours:
- 8:30 am - 4:00 pm Monday - Thursday
- 8:30 am - 3:00 pm on Friday (The Final Exhibition show will be from 3:00-4:00pm. Campers will be dismissed when the show has concluded).
Commuter Camp Fee:
- $249 (includes instruction and a camp t-shirt)

Art Classes - Summer 2012:
Students must select TWO classes.
A NOTE ABOUT SUPPLY LISTS: The supply list linked to each class are suggestions. You are not required to purchase everything on the list. These supplies can be purchased at an art supply store OR at craft stores, e.g. Michael's, Hobby Lobby, Ben Franklin, Walmart. Tradewinds, of Green Bay, will pre-package your supply orders and will deliver them the first morning of camp. More information about this service will be described in your supply list letter. Minimal supplies are actually needed for most classes and others are suggested to enhance the 'experimental' aspect of the class. Please call or e-mail us if you have questions.
Ceramics: Introduction to Wheel Throwing for Raku Firing

Where there's smoke, there’s fire. There'll be plenty of both in Dean Hoegger's ceramics class. Learn hand-building techniques while creating functional and sculptural ceramic forms. You will be introduced to throwing pots on the potter’s wheel. Set your goals high because some of your efforts can measure up to 30-inches tall. Learn the raku firing process, using fire and smoke to achieve dramatic glazing effects. Professional potter and instructor, Dean Hoegger, will provide plenty of attention to both campers new to the ceramic process and those who have worked in clay before.
Lab Fee: $10
Ceramic tools are provided. Please bring a 1/2-gallon or one-gallon plastic ice cream type bucket and a small sponge. Campers need to wear long blue jeans or other heavy cotton pants, a cotton long-sleeve shirt, shoes, and socks for raku firing which will take place Thursday and Friday. Also bring a small notebook or sketchbook to work out your ideas.
Walk on the Wild Side: Wildlife Illustration

Join drawing instructor, Sara Tlachac, and go on a wildlife adventure. Capture wonderful creatures of the wild with pencil, pastels and charcoal. Develop and improve your drawing skills through gesture drawing, shading, and the use of grid method to render your images in proportion. Each camper will create an impressive, large-scale drawing. Your animal will leap off your drawing paper!

Introduction to Fine Art Digital Photography

Award winning digital photography instructor, Tammy Resulta, will not only introduce you to the workings of your digital camera,she will also teach you to use the magical effects of Photoshop. While taking photographs both out in nature and inside the studio, you will learn about the editing process, composition, and other skills involved in the creation of dramatic imagery. You will examine the work of famous photographers such as Sally Mann and David LaChapelle and come to view digital photography as a Fine Art.
PLEASE NOTE: This workshop does NOT include darkroom use. Bring your own digital camera and a removable memory card to view and print your images.

Cartooning and Comic Book Illustration

Instructor Tom Wallestad has a passion for cartooning. If you do too, this class is for you! You will also learn basic cartooning drawing skills, the foundations of penciling, inking, coloring and transferring techniques. Explore the unique story-telling language of comics and graphic novels and apply what you learn to your development as a cartoonist. This class fills early! Register now!

Past and present techniques collide as campers explore the realms of realism, abstraction, and everywhere in-between under the guidance of painter, Jason Keller. Whether you enjoy a classical approach or one unique to yourself, all avenues of expression will be encouraged and utilized with acrylics. A fun and friendly environment awaits where the typical can become the extraordinary with the flick of a bruch.

Calvin Klein, Giorgio Armani, Louis Vuitton, Coco Chanel. Are you the next big name in fashion? Come, explore the fast-paced world of a fashion designer, model, and stylist. You will be meeting deadlines, coming up with new fashion ideas and producing outfits that are original, under the guidance of the fabulous Cory Linsmeyer. See if YOU have what it takes to make it in one of the most exciting and competitive fields in the world! Please note: the Fashion Students will embark on a journey to the local thrift store during camp. Please send them with a small amount of money (perhaps $10) that can be spent on extra supplies during this trip.

Be the talk of your class! Transform ordinary cast-off objects into wearable art. Jewelry instructor, Erica Becker, will not only introduce you to the basics of jewelry-making, but she'll also encourage you to come up with knock-your-socks-off bling! Rummage through thrift stores. Match that lonely single earring with other found baubles and work them together into unique bracelets, necklaces, and earrings. You'll have lots of fun and learn the fine art of the craft-- sawing, riveting, and soldering.

Books That Bind: The Fine Art of Book Making - NEW!

While working with the accomplished book artist, Kathy Hackbarth, you will be creating approximately three books of your own. Your books will range from a "Flutter Book" that is put together without any stiches, to a "Japanese Stab Bound Book" that requires the use of drills, sandpaper, waxed linen thread, and much, much more. You will start out creating your own "Paste Paper" by painting the paper that will cover your hard-covered books. The beautiful and professional work you will accomplish will amaze you.

Multi-Media Art Installation - NEW!

This innovative class provides a wonderful opportunity for you to work with other campers experimenting with sound, video, performance art, sculpture, and painting, creating a one-of-a-kind fine art installation. Instructor Arda Ishkhanian will introduce you to the history of Fine Art Installation and the artists who worked with this form of self-expression: Marcel Duchamp, Nam June Paik, and Rose Skinner to name a few. After group discussions and collaborative planning, you will sketch out your ideas and make artistic decisions as you develop your concept and put together your multi-media installation.
