Sara Tlachac, instructor/artist, to create wonderful creatures
of the wild with pencil, pastels and charcoal. Develop and improve your drawing
skills through gesture drawing, shading and the use of grid method to render
your images in proportion. Each student will create an impressive, large-scale
drawing.
Sara Tlachac currently works as a fine artist at The Art Garage along with working as an art teacher in the Green Bay Area Public Schools where she has been employed for the past 8 years. She received her BS in Art Education from UW-Stout. Currently she is working on a series of figurative plaster sculptures. Her art can be seen at the Flying Pig in Algoma, Bliss in Sturgeon Bay, and other locations throughout Green Bay. She has exhibited in St. Norbert Gallery, UW-Stout gallery, The Neville Public Museum, The Miller Art Museum, Peninsula Art School, and other exhibitions around the Green Bay area. She has worked for the Summer Art Studio Camp the last four summers as a drawing instructor. You will enjoy working with Sara!
Memory-Making Clay Designs- Register Online - FULL

Students in this class will learn the fundamentals of ceramics working with terra cotta clay. Experiment with textures, colors, shapes and found images to create GPU memory tiles! You will learn the basics of color blending, carving, using impressed objects and creating your own unique designs, that will ultimately be glazed and fired.
Curt Heuer, has taught Ceramics: Intro, Intermediate, Advanced, Design Core, Art History in the Art Department at UW-Green Bay. He has been a faculty member for thirty years. He is known for his thoughtful and exciting artistic ability in the ceramics "art" world. He is also the faculty member behind the Empty Bowls project...as a reminder that (food) bowls are empty every day. You will enjoy Curt's pleasant 'artist' demeanor as you explore various styles and learn how to work with clay.

We all know that eating food can be fun. But did you know that the preparation of food is both a science and an art? In this class you will learn about how certain foods help our bodies stay healthy. You will also see what happens when ingredients in foods are mixed together. And finally you will learn how to prepare foods that are not only tasty but very appealing to the eye. Students will participate in hands-on science experiments that you can eat. What a fun way to learn about food science!
Karen Lacey, MS, RD, CD obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from Valparaiso University in Indiana and her Masters of Science in Dietetics from Mt Mary College in Milwaukee, WI. Karen teaches an introductory nutrition class to students of all majors. As the Director of the Dietetic Programs, she also manages the Dietetic Internship and teaches Nutrition Assessment and Counseling and Nutrition Therapy to the Nutritional Science students. Karen is very active in the American Dietetic Association. She has published papers and texts about the new “Nutrition Care Process” which she helped develop, and serves on the national Commission that sets the standards for dietetics education.

You will explore the amazing topic of exercise physiology. Imagine learning about your heart, finding out your body composition and learn how dietary and other factors can affect your outcomes. Plus, you get to use the University’s state-of-the-art labs and equipment.
Prerequisite: Grandchild must be at least 10 years old. Participants may not have a serious health condition. Health waivers must be submitted prior to the start of the class.
Amanda Nelson, Ph.D., ATC is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Biology at UW-Green Bay. At UW-Green Bay she teaches Introduction to Human Biology, Anatomy and Physiology; Kinesiology. She has published a number of articles and presented at many conferences on the topics of exercise training and brain cardiorespiratory responses. Dr. Nelson is a certified Athletic Trainer, Certified Healthcare provider by the American Heart Association and Certified Heartsaver First Aid by the American Heart Association.

Animals on the Wild Side, In Nature and the Museum- Register Online
Instructor: Thomas Erdman, Curator, Richter Museum of Natural History; Cofrin Center for Biodiversity.
Are you fascinated by birds and animals? You will learn about Green Bay's natural biodiversity through trail walks in the campus prairie and bayshore, and wooded areas of the Cofrin Arboretum, our nature 'lab'. In the Richter Museum explore the fascinating collections and see how they are used for teaching, documentations of species distributions and environmental changes and quality. Learn what a voucher specimen is and why they are so important. See how birds and other animals are used to detect toxins and their importance in cleaning up the Fox River, Green Bay and Lake Michigan. If you love nature and wish to preserve it, this is the perfect place to be this summer.
Thomas Erdman has been a raptor researcher and bander for more than 30 years. He is director of the Little Suamico Ornithological Station where more than 1,000 hawks and owls are trapped and banded each year. Erdman has done research on the population dynamics of woodland nesting hawks, especially northern goshawks, and he has been involved in forest planning for raptors in the national forests in the western Great Lakes region.

Creating Your Family’s Webpage - Register

Instructor: Dr. Bill Shay, Professor, Information and Computing Science
This is another great new course for Grandparents University! Dr. Shay will take you through the steps to creating a webpage for you and your family. By using an ‘easy to use’ web design software package, he will show you how to write to your webpage, how to scan photographs of your family and/or pets, and he will show you how to set up links to additional pages devoted to specific individuals and family ‘topics!’ When you leave the class you, will have an introductory understanding of how web pages work, and you will be able to take your work home on a CD. This one should fill early, so register today!
NOTE: Web pages created in this class may not work on your home computers, unless you have a web development package on it. The University will be using 'Expression Web'. Other web development packages may be able to work with the pages you created in this software.

Dr. Bill Shay joined the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay
in 1979 as an assistant professor in the Natural and Applied Sciences area.
In 1984, he joined the Information and Computing Sciences Program as a professor
where he has taught to the present time. He has had the position of Computer
Science chair since the program's creation in 1995. Current and future interests
for Dr. Shay are in Computer Science and Computer Science education at the
college level. Specifically, he is interested in curricular development issues
as they relate to Computer Science and textbook writing. You will enjoy the
humor and easy teaching style. You will learn a lot from him! He has a Ph.D.
in Mathematics, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 1978. A M.A. in Mathematics,
