Carrie Fonder - Co-Director
Carrie
Fonder, sculptor, has a BFA from Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and is
presently a MFA degree candidate at Cranbrook Academy of Art. She has numerous
solo exhibitions and commissions to her credit. Her work has been exhibited
nationwide, including the New York Studio Program and the Milwaukee Art Museum.
She has taught elementary art in the Green Bay Area Public Schools and is the
owner of Raw Materials, a sculpture and design studio.
Sandra Shackelford- Co-Director
Sandra
Shackelford, fine artist and instructor, received her BFA from the University
of Wisconsin-Green Bay and did graduate work in fine arts at the University
of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. A documentary artist, Shackelford's work combines heroic
scale drawings, black and white photography and excerpts from oral histories
of the (un)common heroes who make up her historical work titled, "Portrait
of a Compassionate Humanity."
Her work was used exclusively in the award winning educational television program,
"But Names Can Hurt Forever." Her photography will be in an up-coming
documentary film on "The Hobo Historian."
Ms Shackelford has served on the art faculties of both UWGB and St. Norbert
College, De Pere, WI and uses photography and creative writing in her work with
K-12 students at Aldo Leopold Community School, Green Bay. She also creates
various art programs for central city youth through Howe Neighborhood Family
Resource Center. Ms Shackelford's art is in collections throughout the US.
Dean Hoegger-Instructor
Ceramics
instructor, Dean Hoegger, understands the therapeutic value of working with
clay and encourages his students to explore this medium while discovering their
creative talents. He fully supports the exploratory ideas of his students and
helps each one to find new ways to grow as an artist. As a professional artist,
he has exhibited throughout the Midwest since 1976. His recent clay work ranges
from wheel thrown porcelain vessels to hand built Raku sculptures. At times,
he gears up his studio for creating large wheel thrown floor-size vessels. His
work can be found at two area galleries and at several local shows including
Art Street. As a teacher, Dean Hoegger works with fifth graders in Sturgeon
Bay and teaches weekly pottery classes and weekend workshops for high school
students and adults.
Arda Ishkhanian-Instructor
Arda
Ishkhanian is of Armenian origin born in Egypt and attended high school in Beirut
Lebanon. In 1979 she immigrated to America and attended California College or
Arts where she receive her BFA in Film and Video. She continued her studies
at San Francisco State University and The University of Iowa where she received
her Art Teaching Certification. As an art teacher Arda shares her love of the
Arts with students and enjoys embarking them on a life long journey of exploring,
experiments, and appreciating art. She encourages students to find creative
solutions to problems and provide venues for them to express themselves through
art. Arda has exhibited her own artwork in New York City, Amsterdam, Egypt,
Chicago, Iowa City, and San Francisco.
Cory Linsmeyer-Instructor
Fashion
Designer Cory Linsmeyer graduated from UW-Green Bay with a Bachelors of Science
in Studio Art and Fashion Design with an Art Education Minor. Recently Cory’s
art was featured in Fiberarts Magazine in a group exhibition. His artwork has
also been exhibited in Wisconsin, California, and Georgia. Additionally, he
has interned with Chicago-based designer Lara Miller. Cory is a second year
SAS instructor and has many fabulous, fresh ideas for fashion.
Shelly Nooyen-Instructor
Ms.
Nooyen has a degree in photography from Milwaukee where she worked as a freelance
photographer with the Milwaukee Art Museum, Channels 10/36, and the as staff
photographer for M.A.T.C. After moving to Green Bay and receiving her Bachelor
of Science from UW-Green Bay, she began teaching art for the Green Bay Area
Public Schools where she is still currently employed. Shelly believes the creative
energy and working with other artists inspires and draws her back every year
to SAS. She loves to learn new techniques and visits art whenever she can. She
completed her Masters Degree studying Environment Builders’ concrete sculptures
last summer. Her most recent work is traveling around the Midwest and photographing
grottos and concrete parks.
Danica Oudeans-Coale-Instructor
Danica
Oudeans-Coale is a recent MFA graduate from Miami University Ohio. She received
her undergraduate degree from UWGB and has now returned to campus teaching painting,
drawing, and 2D design as adjunct faculty. Her work uses a range of media including
painting, drawing, and a wide array of printmaking processes. Her work has been
shown in several galleries across the Midwest and has studied with internationally
distinguished artist Ed Paschke at Anderson Ranch in Snowmass Village, Colorado.
Sara Tlachac-Instructor
Sara Tlachac currently works as a fine artist at The Art Garage along with working as an art teacher in the Green Bay Area Public Schools where she has been employed for the past 8 years. She received her BS in Art Education from UW-Stout. Currently she is working on a series of figurative plaster sculptures. Her art can be seen at the Flying Pig in Algoma, Bliss in Sturgeon Bay, and other locations throughout Green Bay. She has exhibited in St. Norbert Gallery, UW-Stout gallery, The Neville Public Museum, The Miller Art Museum, Peninsula Art School, and other exhibitions around the Green Bay area. This will be her 4th year working as an SAS instructor. Sara is very excited to be back working with such talented art students!
Tom Wallestad-Instructor
Mr.
Wallestad, a Door County native, earned an MFA in Computer Graphics from Syracuse
University and a BA in Studio Arts at UW-Green Bay. He has been teaching cartooning,
animation, and multi-media for many years. His artwork offers interactive interpretations
of visual and narrative structure that is comic-book language. It investigates
perceptions of suggested space and reality in the form of a unique narrative
medium.
Janet Kallman

Janet
Kallman will earn a Bachelor’s degree in Studio Arts with an emphasis
in Photography, and a minor in Graphic Communications from the University of
Wisconsin-Green Bay in May of 2009. She is a fine art photographer. Her work
consists of self-portraits, documentary and still life. She’s had two
solo shows at the 407 Gallery, exhibited pieces in the Student Juried Show at
the Lawton Gallery three years in a row and was published in the Best of College
Photography Annual in 2006 and the Best of Photography Annual in 2007.
Erica Becker
Ms. Becker is an artist and art educator in the Green Bay area. She looks forward to the completion of her master’s degree in Visual Studies from Cardinal Strich University this spring! Erica also has a B.F.A. with teacher certification from UW-Whitewater with an emphasis in drawing and ceramics. Erica has been teaching at the Summer Art Camp since 2003.
Kelly Ann Smith

Stained glass artist, Kelly Ann Smith graduated cum laude from the University of Wisconsin Superior in 1979 and has been working in stained glass ever since. This accomplished artist has served apprenticeships with a variety of renowned glass artists including master engraver, George Smolcic, Zagreb, Yugoslavia. Engraving, glass painting and sand blasting are some of the many techniques this artist employs in her work for churches, businesses and individual clients. Ms Smith is owner of Cristalvetio, stained glass studio.
Lauren Youngling

Sculptor Lauren Youngling hails from New England where she earned her BFA in sculpture at Boston University. She is currently pursuing a masters degree in sculpture at Cranbrook Academy of Art outside of Detroit. She has been in numerous shows in and around the Boston and New York area.
