For students entering grades 8-12
Daily Class Hours: 8:30 am-4:00 pm, Monday thru Thursday and 8:30-3:00 pm on Friday to prepare for the final exhibition.
- Commuter Fee: $259 (includes instruction)
- Resident Fee: $559 (includes instruction, room and board, counselor supervision, and evening activity transportation) The cost of evening activities will vary depending on the camper's choice. It is recommended that students bring $20-$30 with them to camp for activities and snacks.

Photography in Black and White
Photography is a medium that is widely used in all aspects of art making.
With the guidance of your young and energetic instructor, Janet Kallman,
you will learn the technical, aesthetic, and conceptual practices of B&W
photography. You will develop your own film and print B&W photos in the
darkroom. You will be exposed to a large and exciting range of creative methods
available to photographers, from a documentary approach to a performative and
staged method of shooting. Please bring a 35mm SLR camera (NO digital!) and
an open, creative mind.
Lab fee $60
The Multi-Media Figure
Come explore with instructor Sara Tlachac, the human form as the subject of your art using both two-dimensional and three-dimensional mediums. You will develop a better understanding of the human figure as well as the portrait/self-portrait through the exploration of the many art mediums including plaster and pencil. This class is an essential course for portfolio development and serves as a preparation for a class in figure drawing and sculpture. Lab Fee: $20
Fashion Design
Calvin Klein, Giorgio Armani, Louis Vuitton, Coco Chanel...are you the next big name in fashion? Come and explore the fast paced world of a fashion designer, model, and stylist with Cory Linsmeyer, as you find inspiration from the past to create new and exciting fashions for the future. This week long intensive course will put you through the paces as a working designer- meeting deadlines, coming up with new ideas, and producing a product that is completely original. See if you have what it takes to make it one of the most competitive fields in the world! Lab fee $13
Ceramics: Using The Potter’s Wheel and Advanced Hand Building
Techniques for Raku Firing

Learn the secrets of how to throw on the potter's wheel. Students with wheel
throwing experience will be guided in the creation of advanced forms such as
lidded vessels, section pots, and altered wheel thrown pieces. All students
will gain experience with the hand building techniques used for creating larger
pots and sculptures. The raku firing process will be applied, using fire and
smoke to achieve dramatic glaze effects. This will be an intensive workshop
taught by professional potter and teacher, Dean Hoegger, who
gives individual attention to both the novice and experienced student.
Lab Fee: $20 (Also, a $13 ceramic tool kit may be purchased
the first day of class or students may bring their own tools.)
Metals and Jewelry
This metals and jewelry class, led by Erica Becker, will introduce you to the fundamentals of metalsmithing. Learn how to design and create jewelry and small metal sculpture with brass, bronze, silver, and nickel. Throughout the week, you will work on piercing, forming, forging, and soldering skills, as well as surface embellishments. A combination of metals and techniques will open your understanding of the versatility of the materials and the vast number of objects that can be created. Lab Fee $40
Computer Animation

Do you wish your drawings and cartoons could jump off the page? Have fun breathing new life into your drawings during this character animation course led by instructor Tom Wallestad. Learn traditional animation theory, principles and techniques and apply them through the powerful Flash computer program. Each student will explore character development, invent a storyline, and create cartoon-animated shorts. Find out about the history of animation and its exciting future. Give life to your art- sign up early seats in the lab are limited!
Acrylic Painting: From Ordinary to Extraordinary

In this class taught by Arda Ishkanian you will use acrylic
paint to create personal, expressive extraordinary pieces of art. You will look
at a wide array of painting styles and artist's work and discuss what makes
them stand out. What tricks did these artists use? What are the underlying methods,
techniques, and pictorial devices used to transform ordinary subjects and visual
perceptions into extraordinary ones.
You will explore expressing emotions and moods, tension and tranquility in painting
using appropriate techniques, color theory, procedures for glazing and paste
painting, embedding colors, composition and operational techniques.
Dive into the Third Dimension!
Show
your depth as you make a sculpture out of clay and learn to cast it in plaster.
You can choose to make something from an existing idea, or you can use a poem
or story as a starting out point to get you going. You will cover modeling,
mold making, casting, and finishing during this one week journey through the
production of your masterpiece led by Lauren Youngling.

Multimedia Printing
You will investigate traditional printmaking techniques with a creative twist.
This is a great class for both those who have never tried printmaking as well
as those wishing to expand their printmaking skills. With instructor Danica
Oudeans-Coale, you will be using a variety of everyday materials along
with traditional printmaking processes to create multimedia prints. Other mediums
that will be introduced are painting, textiles, and collage. Emphasis will be
placed upon art making as a process and exploring new and exciting approaches
to printmaking.
Lab fee $30.
Making Mosaics and Much More!!!

\Use your imagination to push this traditional art form to the limit! You will combine mosaic tiles and stained glass in your creatively original designs. Under the direction of stained glass artist, Kelly Ann Smith, you will also learn the basics of effective design and composition along with the painstaking process of stained glass cutting. Further details related to this class and a supply list will be provided prior to Summer Art Studio.
