For commuter students entering grades 6-9
(If you are entering grades 8 or 9 in the Fall, you may register for the Senior High Summer Art Studio Camp, if you wish to stay in the campus dorms.)
Daily Class Hours:
8:30 am - 4:00 pm, Monday thru Thursday
8:30 am- 3:00 pm on Friday (to prepare for the final exhibition.)
- Commuter Fee: $259 (includes instruction)

"A NOTE ABOUT SUPPLIES: The supplies list linked to each class are suggestions. You are not required to purchase everything on the list. These supplies can be purchased at an art supply store OR at craft stores, e.g. Michael's, Hobby Lobby, Ben Franklin, Walmart! Minimal supplies are actually needed for most classes and others are suggested to enhance the 'experimental' aspect of the class."
Ceramics: Introduction to Wheel Throwing for Raku Firing 
There’s smoke, there’s fire… there’s ceramics class with Dean Hoegger! Learn the basics of hand-building techniques for making functional and sculptural forms and be introduced to throwing pots on a wheel. Set your goals high as forms may be up to 30 inches tall! Learn the raku firing process, using fire and smoke to achieve dramatic glaze effects. Professional potter and teacher, Dean Hoegger, gives lots of individual attention to the newbies as well as the experienced among you! Lab Fee: $20 (Also a $13 tool kit may be purchased the first day of class or students may bring their own tools.)
Walk on the Wild Side: Wildlife Illustration
Be Wild! Join instructor Sara Tlachac in capturing the personality and power behind wild animals with a pencil. You will work on skill development through gesture drawing, shading, and the grid method of finding proportions. You will create an impressive large-scale pencil drawing and look at other illustrator’s styles. Be ready to make your animal come alive!
Introduction to Fine Art Digital Photography
Would you like to learn how to take great photographs? If your answer is
yes, then this is the class for you! Learn from Shelly Nooyen how to use a
digital camera, explore composition, learn lighting techniques, and enhance
your inspiration from great photographers like Ansel Adams, Dorthea Lange,
and Diane Arbus in this art studio course. By the week’s end you will
be composing strong, competent photographic images. Emphasis will be on nature’s
beauty, studio portraiture, and still life. Digital photos will be discussed
one-on-one. Selected photos will be printed. You will leave camp with a myriad
of photos and most of all; you will have learned great photography skills
and have fun taking pictures!
Please note: This course does NOT include darkroom work. Students will need
to bring their own digital camera and MUST bring a removable memory card to
view and print images.

Cartooning and Comic Book Illustration
Tom Wallestad will have you drawing cartoons like a pro! If you have an on-going interest in cartoons, comics, or character animation, Tom shares your enthusiasm. This class will focus on the development of basics cartooning drawing skills. The foundations of penciling, inking, coloring, and transfer techniques will be applied to your creations. You will explore the unique narrative language of comics and graphic novels. Aside from the technical, the goal is to help each student develop and realize his or her personal vision. This class is in high demand and always fills early. Register early!
Introduction to Acrylic Painting
Don’t be blue, this red hot class taught by Arda Ishkanian offers enjoyable encounters with color! You will explore expressing emotions and moods, tension and tranquility in painting using a variety of techniques. You’ll learn when to choose a brush or spatula, procedures for glazing and paste painting, varieties of color collages, and how to express yourself in painting, to name just a few! You will look at a wide array of painting styles and artist's work to gain inspiration. You will do exercises to help spark the imagination, and play with color to create a minimum of 2 unique paintings.
Fashion Design
Calvin Klein, Giorgio Armani, Louis Vuitton, Coco Chanel...are you the next
big name in fashion? Come and explore the fast paced world of a fashion designer,
model, and stylist as you find inspiration from the past to create new and exciting
fashions for the future. This week long intensive course taught by Cory Linsmeyer
will put you through the paces as a working designer- meeting deadlines, coming
up with new ideas, and producing a product that is completely original. See
if you have what it takes to make it one of the most competitive fields in the
world!

From Junk to Jewelry!

Transform ordinary cast off objects into wearable artworks with instructor, Erica Becker! You will not only be introduced to the traditional basics of jewelry making (sawing, riveting, and soldering), but also combine the technical element of the metal-smith with the experimental nature of found objects. You'll be thrilled with the assortment of playful bracelets, necklaces, pins, and rings that you make! Lab Fee $20
Mosaic Making, Down and Dirty!!!

Put on your grubbies, roll up your sleeves and learn the basics techniques of mosaic making with Kelly Ann Smith. Create your own designs and translate them into framed 12 x 12 inch wall pieces or go 3D and go wild. Bring in found objects, -- buttons, shells, parts of dolls, -- you name it, and embellish furniture, shallow bowls and statuary along with mosaic tiles to create your very own conversation piece while learning the basics of this art form.
