Guitar CampEligibility: Campers entering grades 8-12+ with at least one year of playing experience are eligible to apply. A parent or guardian and a school music director or private teacher must recommend all registrants. Campers with interests in Rock - Blues - Jazz - Singer/Songwriter - Classical - Recording Techniques need to take part in this camp!

Camp Specifics:

Sunday Afternoon Auditions: 1 - 4 p.m.
Monday thru Thursday, Daily Class Hours: 8:30 - 3:45
Faculty Concert: 6 p.m. Wednesday night, August 1st
Final Concert: 6 p.m. Thursday night, August 2nd

Commuter Fee: $259 (includes instruction and camp t-shirt)
Resident Fee: $495 (includes instruction, room and board, t-shirt, counselor supervision and evening activity transportation) The cost of evening activities will vary depending on the camper's choice. We recommend campers bring $20-30 to camp with them for activities and snacks.

Guitar CampIf you have been playing for at least one year and want the opportunity to learn from some of the most in-demand instructors and gigging musicians today, then this camp is for you! At the Total Guitarist Camp, we will help develop your skills and place particular attention to such topics as: efficient practicing, technique, applied theory, recording, and most importantly, how to play with other musician's! Campers will form their own band and perform LIVE at UWGB's Theatre Hall!

Take advantage of all Total Guitarist Camp has to offer, including: small group technique and styles skills classes; where campers have the opportunity to play and become familiar with many musical styles including jazz, blues, rock, singer/songwriter, and even classical. Learn how to solo and build a musical vocabulary with our applied theory course. At the Total Guitarist Camp, campers will learn recording techniques in our brand new recording program. Here, campers will learn Garage Band Elite and record their own musical composition.

 

Guitar Camp Director, Michael Tahlier

Michael TahlierAs a graduate of Berklee College of Music, Michael holds a Bachelors Degree in Professional Music with an emphasis in Music Education. Enrolled on scholarship, Michael graduated Cum Laude in 2007. Teaching music since 2000, he has taught privately as a Berklee College off-campus instructor, has been apart of the National Musicians Workshop staff in Chicago, IL and has taken part in the UWGB Summer Camp since 2003. Studying under acclaimed musicians Hal Crook, Ed Tomassi and Jon Damian to name a few; Michael has learned a wide range of teaching styles. Aside from teaching, Michael is an active performing artist playing lead guitar with singer/songwriter, Tim Stopulos (Tim Stop). Michael's professional career has awarded him opportunities to share the stage with such bands/artists as: Howie Day, CCR, 9 Days (Story of a Girl), Girl Talk, Khari Parker (Destiny's Child, Beyonce, Boz Scagz). Tim Stop has just released their third full-length album entitled "Songs of Separation", with Michael on lead guitar.

Currently residing in Chicago, Michael is the owner/founder of "Musicians Workshop" a Chicagoland music-learning center located in Westmont, Illinois. Michael attended the UWGB Guitar Camp as a high school student and is so honored to be with this program as the camp director.

 

Schedule

Guitar CampAll auditions will be held on Sunday afternoon, July 29, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. in the Studio Arts Building. Auditions will be administered by the Camp faculty and will include a short theory test and a prepared piece. The camp schedule begins on Monday through Thursday and will include such classes as: concert groups, applied theory, clinics, studio recording, masterclasses and more!

Please note: Campers will bring all needed playing equipment to camp, including: guitars with amps, cables, picks, drum sets, etc.

 

Special Features

Evening Concerts and Jam Sessions - Campers have the opportunity to play with faculty and special guests.

Final Concert - The week ends with a free public concert at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 2 in the University Theatre located in the Theatre Hall Building. Faculty concert on Wednesday, August 1, 6:30 p.m., University Theatre.
