Camp Specifics:

  • Daily Class Hours: 8:30 am - 3:40 pm
  • Commuter Fee: $259 (includes instruction and camp t-shirt)
  • Resident/Housing Fees: $495 (includes instruction, room and board, camp t-shirt, counselor supervision and evening activity transportation)

Auditions will be held for Band, Orchestra, and Choir participants on Sunday afternoon.

There are no auditions for 6th & 7th graders in X-Band.

Middle School Summer Music CampX-TRA! X-TRA! Make X-BAND your NEXT band!

Why X-Band? We know of no other band camp in the region that caters to the needs of the young musician, and employs 'beginner-musician teaching specialists who work with new musicians.

Designed for the young musician entering 6th & 7th grades, X-Band will help you expand your musical abilities. With no audition required, you will have fun and fast paced rehearsals and classes that will challenge you; all with upbeat, super-experienced instructors. Get ready for the best band week ever!

Note: If you are a seventh grader, with a band director's recommendation, you may opt out of the X-Band by auditioning for placement in one of the other bands.  Recommendations may be sent by email to summercamps@uwgb.edu.

 

Band

The Green Bay and Honors Bands feature exciting music that will be fun and challenging! You will want to share the music titles with your band teacher and play it at school in fall. Campers will audition to get into these bands. These bands are for campers entering grades 7-9 in the fall.

 

Middle School Summer Music CampChoir

Choir campers entering grades 7-9, will sing in the mixed choir and in the all-camp chorus. Learn from amazing UWGB faculty. Learn new skills, develop a new techniques! Get ready for some very cool, contemporary songs that you will be singing the rest of the summer!

 

Orchestra

Orchestra campers entering grades 7-9, will enjoy the array of music you will be playing throughout the camp day. Rehearsals, masterclasses and sectionals will prepare you for the concert in the Weidner Center. Orchestra conductor will be announced at a later date.

 

Guest Faculty and Artists

Middle School Summer Music CampSpecial Features

  • Awards: Outstanding campers will be chosen to receive partial scholarships to the 2013 camp.
  • Camp Dance and other great social activities: An evening dance will be held on Thursday, July 19th.
  • Final Concert: Friday, July 20th at 6:00 p.m. in the prestigious Weidner Center for the Performing Arts.

 

Schedule

The camp week begins Sunday afternoon, July 15th, with auditions and an all-camp meeting. Daily sessions are held Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. A typical daily schedule is as follows:

  • 8:30 a.m. Sectional
  • 9:35 a.m. Rehearsal
  • 10:40 a.m. Option Class*
  • 11:45 a.m. Lunch
  • 12:35 p.m. Rehearsal
  • 1:40 p.m. Comprehensive Musicianship Rehearsal
  • 2:45 p.m. Option Class*

 

3rd and 7th Hour Options Summer 2012*

Customize your camp experience by choosing two option classes! Campers should choose TWO different classes. One will serve as your 3rd Hour Option and one as your 7th Hour Option.

Most Popular 7th Hour Option: Camp Chorus

The 2012 Camp Chorus will present your favorite tunes in a performance that will inspire your parents and friends. Stay tuned for themed content for this option. This 7th hour choice class will perform in Friday's Weidner Concert in spectacular style.

Instrumental Ensembles This year's instrumental ensembles will explore diverse and exciting new repertoire, from world music, to jazz, pop and folk. This is a great option class for students who want to stay on their instrument for an option hour and who want to learn new music that is different than the music they are playing on the concert.

3rd Hour Option Choices:

  • Composition
  • The Total Flutist (flute choir)
  • Heavy Metal Brass Choir(6th and 7th grades only)
  • Instrumental Jazz Improvisation (instrumentalists only)
  • World Beat Percussion (for non-percussionists only)
  • Technology: Introduction to Recordng Techniques
  • Music Tools (Intro Theory/Notation)
  • Musical Theatre (must register for Camp Chorus 7th Hour)
  • Northwinds Clarinet Ensemble (clarinet choir)
  • Pop Strings and Fiddling (strings only)
  • Saxophone Studio (saxophone choir)

Middle School Summer Music Camp7th Hour Option Choices:

  • Camp Chorus (open to both instrumentalists and choral campers)
  • Composition

Eligibility

Band camperes entering grades 6–9 and Orchestra and Choir campers entering grades 7-9 in the fall are eligible to apply. All campers must be recommended by a parent or guardian and a school music director.
