Get your feet wet as you jump into learning about one of the planet’s most important natural resources - fresh water. Join in for a three day exploration of water resources in, on and around the beautiful University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus. Led by UW-Green Bay’s outstanding natural resources faculty, campers gain fieldwork, classroom and laboratory experience as they build awareness of some of the many issues confronting fresh water ecosystems. Fun, challenging and engaging, campers have the option to attend this camp for one unit of college credit.
Camp Specifics:
- Dates: July 15-18, 2012
- Fees: $279 for commuter day students; $475 for students who choose to live on campus
- Daily Schedule: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (M-W) Housing students will check into housing on Sunday afternoon, July 15.
Camp Activities:
- Hands-on fieldwork with experts in surface water, freshwater ecology, groundwater and human impact on vital water resources
- Urban impact on watersheds
- Measure water quality
- Investigate aquatic plants and animals in creek, bay shore and lake shore environments
- Site visits to various research locations in Door County
NEW! College Credit @ Camp
Upon successful completion of this camp and required coursework, incoming high school juniors, seniors and high school graduates may earn 1 UW-Green Bay credit. This credit can be counted as elective credit toward a bachelor’s degree at UWGB and potentially most other higher education institutions in the State of Wisconsin. Those who choose not to enroll for college credit, cannot count participation in the camp as college credit at a later date. General Information
The Perfect Camp Location - This 700 acre campus location is a perfect setting for summer camps. Located five miles from the downtown Green Bay area.
Resident Housing Students - UW-Green Bay's two-person dorm rooms are comfortable, offer a private bathroom per room, and are within a five minute walk to the campus facilities. Campers are assigned a roommate of the same gender and age; we honor one roommate request.
Special evening activities are planned for campers who live on campus. These events may include a talent show, field trips, game night in our newly renovated University Union, swimming at the state of the art Kress Events Center, outings to recreational areas in the Green Bay area, etc. Our campers aren't bored in the evening!
Students who choose to live on campus will be supervised by a team of overnight camp counselors. This highly trained team undergoes hours of emergency training, simulated role-plays, and are experienced in working with today's youth.
Commuter Students - Students who don't live on campus, must provide for their own daily transportation to and from campus each day. Lunch meals are available for an additional fee. Order online when you register!
Scholarships - As many as 50% of our campers attend on scholarships or other assistance. Many community civic organizations, local businesses and area clubs often provide assistance to students.
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) offers some scholarship assistance for non-athletic camps. Scholarships are given on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to eligibility based on financial need. Application forms are available on our scholarships page.
Health Services and Insurance - The UW-Green Bay Health and Counseling Center is available to students 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Accident insurance through the University of Wisconsin is provided for all camps. This limited policy covers injuries relating to camp accidents only. It is understood that medical costs in excess of camp insurance will be borne by parents or guardians.
Disciplinary Policies - The camp reserves the right, upon notification of parents, to dismiss any student during any session for improper conduct, language, dress or attitude which, in the judgment of the summer camp administrative and counseling staff, is detrimental to the well-being of other students or smooth operation of the camp.
