Video Game Programming Camps: Sessions I & II: Join campers entering entering grades 8-12+ on the UW-Green Bay campus as you learn about the world of object-oriented programming and an introduction to developing software in a gaming environment. Campers will learn basic techniques to creating games and will be introduced to object-oriented programming. Campers will learn how to make objects interact with each other through events and will learn how to program some basic games.

Over the last twelve years, Ben Geisler has worked at four AAA game development houses: Raven Software, Human Head Studios, Frozen Codebase and Radical Entertainment. He has worked on more than six best selling games. He has also been involved with publisher relations at Vivendi Universal Games, THQ, Konami and Activision. His past credits include Soldier of Fortune 2, X-Men Legends, Jedi Knight 2, Quake 4, The Incredible Hulk: UD, Elements of Destruction, Burgertime World Tour, Prey 2 and Prototype. Publications include book articles on Artificial Intelligence and papers in trade journals. Ben has a Bachelor's of Science and a Master's of Science in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin. His coursework focused on artificial intelligence but also included a study of agile development methodology. In his master's thesis he developed machine learning software which was integrated into Soldier of Fortune 2. He has taught game development at the college level at ITT Technical Institute, Herzing, and UW-Milwaukee.

If you love gaming and are interested in how video games are programmed; if you are interested in computer science and/or the video game industry, this camp is for you! NOTE: This is not a gaming camp. You will not be playing video games during the instructional session of this camp, but instead will be learning how to write gaming programs to develop your own games. This camp is limited to 30 campers, so register early!

Camp Specifics:

Dates: Session 1: July 7-10, Session 2: July 14-17, 2013.
Fees: $279 for commuter day campers; $469 for campers who choose to live on campus
Daily Schedule: 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. (M-W) Resident housing campers check in on Sunday afternoon.

General Information

The Perfect Camp Location - This 700 acre campus location is a perfect setting for summer camps. Located five miles from the downtown Green Bay area.

Resident Housing Campers - UW-Green Bay's two-person dorm rooms are comfortable, offer a private bathroom per room, and are within a five minute walk to the campus facilities. Campers are assigned a roommate of the same gender and age; we honor one roommate request.

Special evening activities are planned for campers who live on campus. These events may include a talent show, field trips, game night in our newly renovated University Union, swimming at the state of the art Kress Events Center, outings to recreational areas in the Green Bay area, etc. Our campers aren't bored in the evening!

Campers who choose to live on campus will be supervised by a team of overnight camp counselors. This highly trained team undergoes hours of emergency training, simulated role-plays, and are experienced in working with today's youth.

Commuter Campers - Campers who don't live on campus, must provide for their own daily transportation to and from campus each day. Lunch meals are available for an additional fee. Order online when you register!

Scholarships - As many as 50% of our campers attend on scholarships or other assistance. Many community civic organizations, local businesses and area clubs often provide assistance to campers.

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) offers some scholarship assistance for non-athletic camps. Scholarships are given on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to eligibility based on financial need. Application forms are available on our scholarships page.

Health Services and Insurance - The UW-Green Bay Health and Counseling Center is available to campers 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday - Friday.

Accident insurance through the University of Wisconsin is provided for all camps. This limited policy covers injuries relating to camp accidents only. It is understood that medical costs in excess of camp insurance will be borne by parents or guardians.

Disciplinary Policies - The camp reserves the right, upon notification of parents, to dismiss any camper during any session for improper conduct, language, dress or attitude which, in the judgment of the summer camp administrative and counseling staff, is detrimental to the well-being of other campers or smooth operation of the camp.
