Career Exploration and Planning: Choosing a Major / Career

Whether you are undecided about your major or would like to explore your career options, take advantage of the various services we provide to assist you with this process!

Career Counseling  is available for one-on-one assistance with your career development. It isn't limited to only job information; planning for your lifestyle and attaining happiness are part of the package. Individual consultation times are available. Make an appointment with a Career Counselor by calling (920) 465-2163 or stopping into the office (SS 1916). We can help you with choosing a major, developing networks, your job search, applying to graduate school and other career-related issues.

Career Assessment Tools such as the the Strong Interest Inventory, WISCareers, or MBTI might assist you in determining potential career fields or majors.  These contain interest inventories where you respond to choices regarding your interests, competencies, and preferences. Your profile is then related to over various careers. A counselor will visit with you to determine whether an assessment tool will help you with your career or major decision-making, and help you interpret your results.

WISCareers is an interactive self-assessment tool that will help you learn more about yourself, your career goals, and options. It provides assessments for interests, skills, and values. This program has an extensive database of occupational information including job outlook, salaries, and job requirements, and schools that offer majors for careers you select.  WISCareers is available on-line to students free of charge.  Contact Career Services to set up an appointment with a staff member to determine if WISCareers can help you!
