An internship...

Is a work experience where you earn academic credits
May or may not be compensated
Is typically 8-20 hours of on-site work per week
Should involve professional activities that ideally relate to your career field
Must be approved and supervised by a faculty member as well as an on-site supervisor

Why should I do an internship?

To gain practical experience while earning academic credit
To help you in your career by giving you first-hand occupational information
To improve job prospects after graduation by giving you valuable work experience
To offer you contacts or a job reference which are useful in later job searches

Undergraduate Research Programs

National Science Foundation's Research Experiences for Undergraduates Program (REU) These programs are for students pursuing degrees in the Sciences: Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Engineering, Math and Earth Science.
